Trying to get the dad to get me a couple combos for my birthday coming up in a couple weeks….

I got a couple that i really like on cabelas…
what else would anybody suggest for rod/reel combos?? i havent looked anywhere else yet so i am anxious to hear what else you guys use..

So far I am looking to get a quantum accurist combo and a cabela’s prestige combo..the accurist is low profile and the prestige is round…

The accurist is a sweet deal…buy the reel for 79.99, get the rod free…and the prestige goes for 99.99 with the rod

Pesonally, I like the cheese flavor combos the best…but seriously…

You might want to check out HOF for a custom St Croix rod…he doesn’t have everything listed on his website…so give em a ring…I think you might be surprised!

HOF makes a ton of different Custom St. Croix Rods for ANY need and style of fishing. And some really nice bass rods too. They have the lowest price on Okuma reels that I have seen also and this includes baitcasters too.

    Thanks, Bill

ps. How old are you going to be Cade? And just one more question: You haven’t been eating all those bass you have been catching have you? [you pic shows you have gained a couple pounds since the last pic I saw.]

For the money the guide series Cabelas rods are impossible to beat. they run less than 40 bucks for anything you want. pair that up with any Shimano reel and you will have an investment that will give you years of service.

If your pops is loaded step up to the St Croix, they start at $100 bucks but are worth the money.

Save your money on the rod, and spend it for a Shimano Curado rather than an Accurist. Trust me on this one.

Moss, none of your quantums are even of the new millennium…and your .02 are that of out of date equipment.

The Curado is an EXCELLENT REEL, there’s no doubt about it. However I doubt young 13yr. old Cade has the 200 dollars for their newly designed reel.

The accurist has gone about many changes over the past few years, and many of the technical glitches so many of you gripe about have been refined…

I’m not hating, but have found it amusing over the years that so many of you harp on a product you haven’t even purchased in probably the same number of years.

The Accurist will be just fine

The last Accurist I bought was a 2002 that I sold this summer. That is this millennium.

I think there are still quite a few 120 dollar Curados around, at Gander still I think, probably some for cheaper on ebay and other internet fishing equipment for sale boards. In my opinion, at 120 bucks they are worth 1/3 more than a 79.99 Quantum.

I have no agenda against Zebco, I just have an opinion based on my experiences with the reels. If I were looking for a under 90 dollar reel, I would look at Abu before Quantum too.

I think Shimano is also coming out with some new cheaper reels too.

I also tried some of the 99 dollar Diawa Advantage reels. Nice, but not as nice as the Curados. Again, not worth the 20 bucks in savings IMO, but nice.

If we “haters” are griping about reels we haven’t bought in a number of years, there is probably a reason we quit buying them.

Just my .02 Like yours, worth 2 pennies.

I didn’t call you a hater this time…. My .02 have added up to over 60 bucks by the number of posts i’ve got. $63.38 to be exact

I would definately go with the Accurist. That is all I have for baitcasting reels. I have had eight of them and I will not ever buy anything else.

    Thanks jlbassin,
I got the pm. I think i might have to take that one off your hands provided it is in good condition and you can get me a pic. Looks like i would save a little money…the only problem is that i wouldnt have a rod to go with it.. so i would have to buy one seperate and i would like to get a decent rod…What in your guys’ minds would be the cheapest rod you can get with the best quality?

lol bill actually it was the 10 pound walleyes that have really been killing me!

Gander Series Rods are fairly cheap and durable. Plus Gander is good at replacements if you do have problems with them.

I don’t know how you feel about Bass Pro Shop rods but they are having a sale right now. I was at the Gurnee Mills store yesterday and picked up a BPS Extreme flipping stick for $69.99 which normally retails for $99.99. Used it in the “pits” today and it performed beautifully.

i was going to go to the gander website, but it is the worst website i think i have ever seen as far as products go. It didnt have any information about what they sell, or how much. There was a section for customer service, and a section for what is on sale. That is it
I think i am going to get my dad to take me to cabela’s though..i might pick up one of those energy pt’s instead…. Man those things are sweet..my friend just got one and i was drooling over it today.

    Big Fish,

If you are interested in a reel, I would purchase a Shimano Curado, they are well worth the money! I have some brand new ones that are still in the box, never used that I would sell for $80.00 each (Cash), NO Tax! They are 201B’s 6.2:1’s. Let me know if you are interested. If you prefer a right hand retrieve, I can get you one as well!

Sorry, I should have stated that they are the Green ones. They are not the new $199.99 models (silver).

These reels will be going down in price next year anyways.
