Swim Jig? Finesse Jig? You decide…

The Brovarney Baits 1/8 oz. Lil’ Thumper…Swim Jig? Finesse Jig? You decide.

This has quickly become one of my favorite jigs for multiple reasons. I call it a “Slash” jig because of its ability to be used in two completely different ways. The Lil’ Thumper can be used as a light-weight swim jig when paired with a 3” single-tail grub, or a finesse bottom-bouncer when paired with your favorite craw trailer and a pair of scissors. Plus, this jig has a high quality, super sharp nickel hook.

When used as a swim jig, this jig will not roll on you when a 3” single-tail grub is used. I believe the BEST feature of this jig is the flatter head design. The flatter head will stay higher in the water column than the bullet head with the same speed retrieve. Let me tell you from experience, with the flatter head, light weight (1/8th oz.), and a grub, you can darn near CRAWL this jig across the surface which drives the fish nuts! Next time the fish are swiping at your jig, or stealing your grub tails, tie one of these on and the fish normally inhale it.

Now, here is what makes this jig so awesome. With a pair of scissors and a small craw, you can have a finesse jig which is as good, if not better, than any big name finesse jigs on the market. Since these skirts are hand-tied (like ALL Brovarney Baits jigs are) there is skirting material sticking forward around the head. With a pair of scissors you can trim down the skirting around the head to give it the look of a crayfish tail. Now slide on a small craw for a trailer. The flatter head in this case reduces the amount of snags you’ll get while bouncing it on ROCK and other bottom structures. The bullet-head design jigs tends to hang up more if you are trying to stay in contact with the bottom. I can tell you this little jig is AWESOME for lock-jawed bass.

This jig was successful in late October while fishing the stingy Ohio River. For the ultimate finesse presentation, I throw this jig on a medium action 7ft spinning rod and 8 pound test.

How’s Slop going to throw these with his 80lb PowerPro and stiffer than god-almighty slop rods?

    Just kidding Slop.

Wow- those look great d-nort!! I have tried the little thumper in the regular design but the looks of it with living rubber skirt and trimmed as a finesse jig is a great idea. I will be getting some of these in the near future to try out in the upcoming cold months. Thanks for sharing.

HEY BROVARNEY, do you think it’s about time we bust out the secret jig? I have some really nice pictures and can post them here tomorrow and see what the guys here think.

This should get their blood pumping .

I don’t know, these are so cool I don’t think anyone should have to wait any longer . Then again, it would be a good way to start the new year .

Even though the new (unrevealed) jigs were disigned for bass fisherman, I believe these might cause a little stink in the walleye world as well…. .

I’ll see what I can post tomorrow evening since I’m so nice .

(notice how I used “walleye” and “stink” in the same sentence? )

    Nort,
I am glad you figured out a couple little presentations that have been used by the bass guys in the know but they are far from “unrevealed” In fact you have a long way to go if you just look around a little. I am sure 90% of the board is scratching their heads but I suggest for your sucess that what you are talking about stay dormant for a couple more years. My apologies if I sound rash but I don’t think you quite understand what you are doing. PM me if this is to obscure.

JC- I understand completely! As you can tell most of my posts I tend to remain basic. Trust me, I like finishing high in tournamnets and always want to do what I can to believe I have the upper hand .

If you re-read my post you will see the “revealing” is refering to Brovarney Baits “NEW” jig. NOT A TECHNIQUE OR OTHERWISE. The jig as you and everyone else will soon see…. is NOT a swim jig . Brovarney has been working with a few of us to broaden their jig styles (flipping/ pitching/ etc…).

    It’s all good…no worries.

(thanks for pointing out how far I have to go though )

The jigs look great,I know from your post that the jigs are hand tied, but these pictures sure point out the detail that is put into all the jigs.

Thanks for the nice comments about our jigs. The heads up would be to watch for our new little guy Dave is talking about (he doesn’t have a name yet), we will also be introducing a new fat headed tube jig to give your tubes that goby head (great for great lake dragging), we will be coming out with several more colors of rubber swim jigs, and then their is the flip and swim which a couple of guys saw early in the year. Really looking foward to 2006, the new stuff may wait until the Madison Sport Show for the unveiling process. Heck we may even let Dave pull the cover off.
Thanks for a great 2005 and we look foward to serving your jig needs in 2006,

Sweet…can’t wait to see these things in Madison. They look amazing…I believe they’ll be a hot seller come Spring. I really don’t understand the “you have a long way to go” comment, but from what I’ve seen from these jigs and what’s out there, I find no reason to believe there is anything better. IMO

A “secret jig” or bait etc. doesn’t put a person in the “Upper Echelon” group of anglers. A person’s knowledge and ability to catch fish consistantly puts them in that group.

Even if this “secret” gets out of the bag, I doubt the top anglers will care if jerkin’ skirts like myself and others know it, because as they say, the cream rises to the top and from the sounds of things, most of us are drowning.

jc, that’s exactly what sloppy was getting at, but he just doesn’t understand it yet?! Just poking alittle sloppy, but that’s what creates the higher thinking and thought process of that type of angler. It’s all the little things that add up to a 20# sack of goodies

I think the point is that your arrogant comment about other posters having a lot to learn is not needed on what is supposed to be an “informational” board. The thread was started to exhibit some new jigs that were recently made, and possibly get some positive or constructive feedback from you more “knowledgable” fishermen.

    Once again, just my opinion.
