Well i finally have a break from school, once this hell week is over. I will finally be able to come home and fish the river. I will be home on Thursday morning and plan on fishing all day Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday . I was looking for a little advice as to fishing pools 7 and 8. I have not been back to that area in a month and a half, so any advice would be helpful. If you don’t want to post your response, than please PM me. Also, I will be fishing by myself for those days, so if anyone wants to come along they are more than welcome.

Good luck to all and enjoy the Oktoberfest weekend

I was finally able to go out fishing the mighty Mississippi this weekend. I went out on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. With strong south winds (gusts up to 30 mph) each day, I was unable to fish almost all of my smallmouth areas. The ones I did fish just had a few shorts on them with that said I opted to go for the largemouth, and boy were they on a tear. On Thursday night, I probably caught somewhere around 40-50 fish. I found two areas were the shad were stacked and so were the largemouths. I caught all of my fish on the weekend on either a horny toad or a swim jig. Friday was a little disappointing since I only cuaght about 15 or so keepers, but Monday more than made up for it. I revisited one of the areas that the largies were stacked on and they were totally schooled up. I sat in one spot for more than two hours catching largies anywhere from 12 to 19 inches. The majority were in the 14-16 inch range with a four pounder and two three pounders mixed in. I bet i caught somewhere near 75 to a hundred fish. It was almost every cast for two hours… it was awsome. Not a tourny winning pattern, but still a great time.

Good luck to those of you fishing the MSBC this weekend.

    Keep up updated.

    Good luck on the water

Sounds like a great time!! It’s awesome to hammer those stacked fish.

Pm me with the GPS coordinates of those schools please.

    A 4 pounder, two 3 pounders, and a ton of 14-16″ers not being tournament winning fish? That’s 15+ pounds…

Why aren’t YOU fishing it with the fish you have going?

The MSBC is a two day tournament, and I have to close the bar down on Sat., so Sunday would be a tough day of fishing. Secondly, it will take atleast 24 lbs. (8 fish limit) to take a check in my opion. The fisherman in this area are way to good for me because I hate donating, and I am a college student so my funds are usually pretty tight. Once again good luck to all of you fishing the tournament this weekend. What time are the weigh-ins?

Ya, but 8 fish for 19+ lbs for both days should easily get you a check…its been that way all year. I guess I should’nt be trying to talk you in to it since I can’t make it myself.

I fished one the first year they started the circuit and we got like 20th out of 60 boats or so. This time of year I really believe it will take atleast a 3 lb average to cash a check. I know of two areas where the bass are stacked, but there is a little bit of a size problem for a tourney. I know I could get a limit of 2 lbers but that will do nothing but put me in the middle or back end of the pack.

    Here is a question…..
When tourney fishing if you had a day like I did on Monday, would you sit there all day and catch 2 lber after 2 lber, and hope that the big ones either move in and bite, or do you change areas looking for bigger fish. Just wondering what some of you experienced tournament anglers would do.
