I need a set of cull tags before my next tournament. I have seen many different ones that my partners have used this year. What is the best kind?? Are the ones with the clips better then the big safty pins?? I fished with one guy and we had tourble with the fish getting stuck on the tag and it took forever to get them off. I have also seen fish that look like you put them on a stringer when you take them off the tags.
    Please help

The ones that don’t go thru the fish’s face will fall off.

But tell us why is a gimpy old man that can’t hold on to a rod worrying about cull tags,

Hope this means the arm is better.

    tennispro,

I have a set of the ones with the clips and I have been happy with them. The fish do not seen to even be bothered by them and they do not leave any holes in the fish. One thing to check though is that you have the clip in an areae of the mouth where they will not fall off. This can be quickly learned though trial and error and a little common sense when tagging them

I’m not sure what you mean by tags, but my culling system is on that allows me to pop the loop through the bass’s lower lip and then clasp the hook shut. This avoids going through the gills. I have seen the clip on the lip kind, haven’t heard any bad things yet. They seem like it would be faster and if only one popped off, it wouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve used both types and neither is perfect. I used the safety pin type, Bassmaster brand first. First I don’t like poking the hole in the jaw but actually had the fish break the chain on it about 4 or 5 times in a year.

Then I tried the clip on type from Bag-Em and I wasn’t very happy at first. They kept faling off when I clipped them on the bottom of the jaw. Then I found out I needed to clip them on top just like the picture on the package. Since doing that I’ve been very happy with them.

I do have one come off about every other trip but it isn’t a problem because with the other 4 still on it is easy to tell the other one apart. You can’t pull the fish out by these clip on types but use it to guide your hand and then grapb their mouth to pull them out.

I should probably say, once I warmed up to the clip on I became a rep for Bag-Em products. Some might think this taints my opinion but I promise you if I don’t use their stuff I wouldn’t sell it.

Either way I hope you give them a try. If you can’t find them locally let me know. I do have a few sets I might part with but with shipping you’d save money trying to get them locally.

    Here is their website. Bag-Em

I have been using (occasionnally!!)the Bag-em tags and they work fine if used as they show you. Once in a while one will fall off but that is the exception rther than the rule. Overall this system works great and is most imporatnly easier on the fish.

Actually it is all just wish full thinking right now. I talked to another Doctor last night (he had a tennis lesson). He told me that it was not what the first doctor said and that he thought I should take it easy for 4 weeks and the medication that they have me on is not really going to help.
Nothing like paying $50 for pills that don’t work. But the doctor that I know also told me that he was going to get me a brace that would allow me to still fish He said I would just have to take it easy .
