If you have been wondering about the slop bass, let me tell you they are still there !! Just got back from La Crosse and it was a wonderful trip (even the Oktoberfesters couldn’t spoil it). We fished from Tuesday thru Sunday and had killer slop fish in Lawrence Lake. Largest bass was almost 5lb with many fish in the 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 range. Lots of small fish, glad to them, but lots of keepers too. 85% of the fish came on a Scum Frog (black with black & yellow tail, added two glass rattles), the balance came on flukes & tubes ran over the slop. Tied into a large northern on Friday, boy do they kill a rat !!!
And just a note to those that may wander into the Lawrence Lake area, the duck hunters are there also. We didn’t have any trouble with them, but then we stayed the heck away from them !!
Hoping to make it up for one more trip before I put away the fishing gear and see if I can find my bow.
