Smallies and Largemouth

As the water has been falling steadily and sharply the largemouth have dominated the channel rock, and points. Guide customers have feasted on a steady diet of Largemouth buffet and Smallmouth ala carte for six straight days now. We have basically,(until yesterday ), moved from spot to spot out of boredom of constant cast after cast Bucketmouthes. The larger fish are only about every 30th one, but the smaller guys keep us going. We have been catching only a few smallmouth, but they have been larger and all by themselves, one here and there.(ala carte) Haven’t made it to the slop in about a week and I am wondering if someone would post how they are doing there. On Sunday I had some luck in the slop on pool 8. Nothing real big though. I have noticed that a lot of the slop that I fished this summer has dissappeared. Hope this helps.

A week ago Sunday and Monday nights I had a very good slop bite going before the bottom dropped out on the river level. Fish were getting a big mouthful of duckweed and were hard to stick though. Went out this Sunday morning and couldn’t buy a hit on my frogs, even found some very clear water with weeds and got one fish to hit twice. The fish are still near there, but I couldn’t figure them out.

    Mountain Man,
I have been out a bit 9/24 evening being the last time. It has been slow for myself nowthe temp did drop steady so perhaps top water is gone south? What have you been having your success on? I have been on the main channel spending my time on the wing dams.
    Thanks for any help

I have been out about three days a week as of late and have seen some great fishing. Most of my bass have left the weeds and are relating to other types of structure. I will be happy to give more info next week about patterns. I have to save them for a tourny this weekend.

I fished the West Salem Fall Frenzy this past weekend. I think that twenty one ponds ended up taking first for eight fish.

We put five keepers in the boat. We lost a number of other nice fish as well. Should have had our limit. That is the way it goes. The fog delay did not help the cause either. Most of the fish came on cranks.
