My son and I fished Bass World Sports Tournament Sat. This was the first time we fished a tournament together and it was a great time. With my first cast of the day a fish jumped all over my jig. I got the fish in but it cost me a pole. I set the hook and the All Star rod snapped.
From 6 till around 10.30 we had non stop action. Most all the fish was caught on critter baits with a few on tubes an jigs. We must have boated 25 bass in a few hours with more then a dozen legal.
All the fish came off of rock with a good flow and not one smallie in the bunch. We either got them right on the rock or just beyond it in the eddy, but the rock and good flow was the key to every thing. Once the sun got high and heated up everything we went looking for or kicker. If there was a down side to the day it was we never found big fish. All are fish was in the 2+ range but all in all it was a great day on the water with my son. I think we came in 7th out of 21. No money but good a memory

    Dan:

We were out on 8 Saturday morning as well, and had almost the exact same action as you. I don’t think we went more than ten or 15 minutes without catching a fish, and many were in the 14-16 inch range, but I don’t think we got one much over 3 pounds either. They were biting alomst anywhere we put the trolling motor down. The good news is they were looking alot fatter and healthy than the fish we had been seeing. We also only got one smallie all morning.

I have been reading posts on sick looking fish that some have been catching but, i havent seen any of them. All the fish i have been catching this yr have been very healthy. My numbers are way down this year.Myself i think the fishing pressure on 8 is starting to take it’s toll.Last night as i was leaving the water i noticed huge schools of bait fish so i dont think it’s forage problem but something is changing

The smallies I’ve seen on every pool I’ve fished have looked like they were flattened by a truck. The largemouth though have been pretty good except on Pool 7 where they have been thin. Pool 5 I guess also had kinda thin looking fish.

That’s encouraging that you saw the bait. The only thing I’ve seen is alot of very small shiners.
