Apparently some of you guys out there were tired of opening up 30 pages of the other post , so here you go w/a new JL thread. (no problem.. )

Great night to be out on the water….Kinda tough fishing. The only good fish came from those that made the run out to the river. For those of us who fished the lake, we struggled. Even Champman only caught a few dinks last night

I don’t have the weight totals right now, but nothing too big won. Here’s the Winning Bag Benny and his Son w/I think 4.9lbs? These two are unstoppable together

Motley and Son brought in these 2 keepers, but I think it was Jordan that carried them tonight…Nice job

REELGUY, who had NO spots of his own to try, relied on the tankster for these river smallies

Correction… we left my spots alone… need them for Saturday!

As for relying on Tanks, why not… you did…

Going back to last night’s patterns, as I had mentioned before, the guys who hit the river seemed to catch more fish. The winning bag was actually taken off a wingdam using jigs Honestly kind of surprised..

Reelguy and Tanke got their smallies off rocks if i’m not mistaken. Doesn’t surprise me there b/c almost all the fish i’ve caught this past few weeks have been Gorging on Crayfish.

This kinda of goes hand in hand w/what JC mentioned on the other post about forage. He mentioned fish w/big heads and skinny bodies, ans have a few others i’ve talked to…I think the high water/flow had really put a hurt on baitfish that these fish normally feed on….and there just isn’t enough crawdads to go around.

I started off on the rock islands and got on dink, who had a fat lamprey on him (not anymore ), but that was it…Went to the slop and it was a waste. We threw high, low, in-between, worms, jigs, frogs, spinner’s, poppers, you name it, and only got 4 hits all night.

The weather is changing back to 90+ degrees for the next 5 or 6 days….we’ll see what that does

The lake is deffinately frustarting right now for me also. On a recent trip we found a school of 17 inchers, all cookie cutters. Probably not tournament winning fish but it was a good sign anway. “Stung” a couple and got out of there. Tried to duplicate what we had found in other areas of the lake the next couple of days and came up with not much of anything. Even visited the supossed “honey hole” to see if they were still there and got zippo. The bait was still there but the bass were’nt. Not many bass boats out either…maybe thats saying something. Any ideas whats going on…high water, fishing presure(me included), lack of bait, “snot weed” choked slop, all the above? Even a dink is hard to come by right now.

Wingdam and I were throwing brush hawgs, worms and senko’s outside weedlines. The lake was “dead” as there wasn’t a thing breaking surface around us all night. Nothing was going on topwater for us, so we stuck with the weedline pattern. Most of the fish we caught were on windblown points. The bite was VERY tough though on the lake.

What are the weeds like? Are they cover in that mossy garbage?

Topwater bite has been almost non-existant for me this whole year, aside from a brief run on buzzbaits in late May. Just don’t see much chasing bait going on either.

The smallies were biting on the river, but we found alot of small ones, with alot of small bait mixed in. I don’t know if I have seen a shad all summer. Alot of small shiners though.

There is a combination of all weeds, but i’d say 85% are that slimeball crap that sux, the entired shafer’s landing area is covered in duckweed. The dredge hold area has it’s usual thick lilies on the one bank, and surprisingly enough, the other side is a lot thinner than normal, but the weeds that are there are the slime as well.

So it would be pretty safe to say the best places to find good weeds would be in areas with a little faster moving water. It turn those places might be holding fish due to the cleaner weeds and fresh water.

JC & I fished a lot of eel grass in slack water on pool 9 and the results were poor at best. However, it is getting to be that time of the year where eel grass in moving water will hold better fish. Milfoil, pads, & coontail without that moss provided the best bite.

I do know this, the main ingredient for finding fish on rock bank, is fishing rip rap with the larger chunk rock.

I’ll be out tonight hoping to find a decent pattern. I’m hoping the fish will be kind to me.

    Guys,

Thanks for the information on the bite. I enjoy reading the good natured ribbing that you give one another, but I’m very glad to see you are starting to talk about what was and was not working when you were on the water.

I can understand that most fishermen are not going to give out GPS coordinates for their honey holes, but it is very helpful to hear about some general trends that seem to be landing fish. The best way to keep our sport strong is to have plenty of participants, and catching fish certainly keeps people fishing.

    Thanks again.

5 fish ~ 17″ each = 15+ lbs!!! Sounds like tournament winning fish to me! I’ll take it every time .

Last night we set a record for the smallest bag ever taken to win a wednesday nighter. 3.625lbs WON IT WITH 2 FISH!!

There were plenty of fish to be had, but just not a lot with size. If this keeps up, it will be interesting to see what the Everstart boys can do here in a few weeks.

Here is the winning bag, these guys caught fish after fish all night throwing swimjigs into lily’s and outside of weedlines…and they caught there last fish at the bridge rock pilings right at the landing…Can you say Target?

Overall there are lots of fish being caught, but not a lot of size, which we’ve been hearing for a while now….I have a few other pics, but there all of dinks……

Even Champman is confused on where the big fish are? What’s up w/that hair?

Guys, Jordan and I caught at least a dozen fish (all between 12-14″) on Pop-R’s in the first hour. The kid at one point caught 5 fish on 5 casts in a row. We had a blast. Caught them in a very shallow grassy bay with bass pushing bait in all around us. A feeding frenzy that lasted about an hour, really exciting. Just no quality fish, but a great time 2 feet of water max. Then we moved to outside edges of grass in about 4-5 feet of water and caught some on tubes and senkos and a wacky-rigged fluke. Again, 12-14″ fish the best we could do, but lots of them.

Congrats to BC for the Season 2 Victory I’m waiting for Motley to send pics from the last wednesday, but here are some from the Saturday outing this previous weekend.

I wasn’t there, so don’t know what details on patterns they might have, hopefully they will chime in, but here are a few pics from Pool 5A

Look at the size of this crawdad one of Moss’s fish regurgitated while in his livewell. Not to mention the chug bug that was already in this mouth from another angler.
