    Gary,

I dont know about you, but in the fog I feel safer running in common areas than I do at Idle. Im not saying that you should be scared about being in certain ares when its foggy but if you are then go somewhere where you feel safe, in other words I would choose to be near a bank rather than in a channel. I bet he got a scare but Im sure that they were a safe enough distance away if there was confusion about if it was a skeeter or a ranger.

Not to beat a dead horse:

-You say he was a bass fisherman, Did he have a stringer of
bass hanging over the side of his boat?

    – how fast were you going to get to YOUR spot?

    – I was in Wabasha, on the river Sat. morning, and you’re
right the fog was bad, but it sounds to me like the person saw your rig slowed down and trolled past you.

    – Also I was on a sand beach with my dog relaxing that morning when somebody in a glass boat was fishing the wingdam right in front us and stating casting right towards the dog who was sitting on shore watching him fish. He then made a comment that the dog couldnt swim fast enought to catch “this bait” well apparently the fish couldnt either! Because he sure was moving an awful lot that A.M.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend as i sure did and enjoyed watching the pleasure boats go by with all the nice weather we had.

I think Gary hit it right on the head.
    All money no brains…
Most of the governing personell have the belief that common sense will prevail. Well I hate to tell you that most common sense is left in the parking lot, that is if any was to be had to begin with.

I believe you need to get a license. You do to drive a car, you need to take a gun safety course to own a hand gun. But any moron with a big check book can walk into the boat dealer buy a 30 foot rig that can due upwards of 65 mph or better with no questions asked. And away he or she goes. What in the heck is wrong with this picture. Then some of the enforcement personell are stating that common sense will prevail…what a bunch of crap. Just Putter around in your Patrol boat all day to be seen.
I’m probably setting my self up for a ticket.
But I have to say with all the time I spend on the water down here I have not seen the Law enforcement personell EVER pull a big rig over and site them for loud noise, irresponsible waking, excessive speed around swim areas , nothing!!

But maybe I JUST DON’T SPEND ENOUGH TIME ON THE WATER.

I for one think everyone needs to take at least a water saftey course…before entering a federal waterway.

As far as fog…well gentlemen you are supposed to have bells and gongs. Check it out..

I would advise you to get one of those disposable airhorns if you are going to cruise the river in a fog situation. And keep it right on the console or near the tiller.
It really isn’t the proper tool but no one else around here would understand a bell and gong anyway.

Remember this SPEED kills period…Bass boat, walleye rig, jet ski what ever….boats do not have breaks and hopefully you will be lucky and get a second chance.

So now that you got me going…I’m still going to vent.

Last weekend, this enforcement boat comes by me, I’m fighting a fish no big deal it is just another 5 pound sheepie. But he want to see i think cause he swing in however he is about three quarters plane. I really don’t care I am used to it…however he did not see the small 16 foot older couple just down river of me, I mean a boat length maybe??? Well he waked both of us real good. Then he waves and goes on down the river. The older couple were really pissed and scared. Now these are the people that are supposed to be enforcing the laws.

Another quick one just happened yesterday.
I’m up at lake city just outside the sail boat harbor.
Mike and I are jigging the two humps right to the north of the entrance. I have my bowmount down and am holding us on the hump.
This butthead and that is reallly nice cause I was calling him alot worse. He is in a 22 foot runabout comes out of the sailing dock.. He jumps the boat up on plane. Now you must know he is less then 25 feet from me. Long story short Mike comes running up and jumps on my bowdeck with me cause I thought we were going under my boat is full of water.
Now I am firing my big motor to get the butt moving get my bilge pumping and start chasing this butt head into the gas dock 100 yards away. Yep you got it he almost swamped me to go from the sail boat harbor to the gas dock.
Anyway I went in an conversed with some very bad lanuage on my part. And my boat still had water in it while I was screaming at this prick. Now I got the same thing I’m sorry man, I didn’t now. What a bunch of crap.
There now don’t I feel better.

We as fisherman really do need to police our selves and try and teach by example. But boy it can sure get frustrating with all the idiot’s out there.

Enough said….I’m going to bait a hook or something…

    anglershavenno1,

Your comments are out of line. The whole point of this thread was to point out that someone felt that they were in an unsafe situation and they wanted the rest of the fishermen to make sure they were careful out on the water.

Is pointing out ERON’s typos going to make him a more cautious boater? Your comments might mean more if you were not so anonymous in your profile and if your very first post was not a flame directed at someone willing to say that they might be the offending boater in question.

There are plenty of idiots on the water equally dispersed among those who boat for pleasure, and fish for bass, walleyes, cats, etc. Let’s focus on those individuals who are unsafe on the water, and not inaccurately label a whole class of boaters/fisherman as careless.

Admited the comments on spelling were out of line, and a sorry to ERON is in order. I am not a “regular” river fisherman, and was surprised at the lack of respect by ALL boaters over the weekend. The point being is that we are all out to have a fun, relaxing time, and need to be aware of the fact that we are not the only ones out there, fog or no fog. Care and caution should be taken at all times to insure that we can continue to enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer.

As always, this post turned into, for the most part, a bass boat smashing session. It always does. Everyone goes on about how bad everyone is and how they never do wrong. I’m sure we all irritate people in one way or another. People irratate me all the time on the water. I don’t even bother flicking them off, chasing them down, or bothering with it at all. And believe me, I have seen it all too. And everytime we all get on here and whine we are only adding more fuel to the fire for adding more and more regulations to the lakes and rivers.
I could have just bit my tounge and not responded to this post even though I knew the guy involved. Why stick my neck out??? But I know we were navigating the river as carefully as possible. There was not the least bit of danger involved with that particular incident. I can understand that it spooked you though. Hearing a boat and not knowing hes barely chugging along, and then having it appear out of no where. Like Joe said, I would never float around on the channel not under power by the big motor. I did that ONE time and never will again. I bobbed around with no GPS having no clue where I was as boats (No BASS boats, only tin fishing boats) ran by, barely on plane as I sat there like a cork in the water.
As far as the laughs we got out of it……It wasn’t funny that you got scared, it was funny how you carried on and on swearing and cursing.
We will continue to practice safe boating.
