Numbers were great today, size was from 10-16 inches(15-20/hour). I was way up in the chutes and ditches most of the day and then ran out to the channel and had some good action on just out of the current humps and rock points. Mini Bass tubes (3″?) in glitter/pumpkin and salt smeared them in the morning(1/8 oz tube jig hook and head.). 90′ eye to head angle really stuck out ahead of the 45 degree eye to head . That kind of amazes me since I really was casting not jigging and the 45 degree angle often times is better when you are casting and dragging. The minute I changed to the 45 degree I had trouble hooking up and went back to 90 degree and had no problem.

Hear comes the big suprise. In the morning until 11:00 A.M. I usually don’t need to add anything to the plastic, but unless I’m fishing a tourney , from 11-12 or so on I usually put a little chunk of crawler on. Well the large number of bass I caught this morning tore all my
mini-bass tubes up so I changed to a salmon egg colored twister, with a tiny piece of crawler on a regular 16th oz tail head. I kept getting nipped , but no hook ups. So I figured I’d find out what it was and ditched the tail except for the 1/8 inch piece I leave up on the tail keeper so the fish don’t bite up on a hard thing and let go and added a little bit bigger piece of crawler. I kept getting bit , but I wasn’t losing much crawler?????? But the 1/8 inch piece of plastic seemed to keep slipping off the keeper. Okay I’m kinda slow , but all of a sudden even I see the light come on. For the next 25 minutes I caught Bass( a bunch), perch, small walleye and bull gills,(nearly every pitch), all on that little piece of plastic, which I moved down towards the hook.

Never being satified, I had to try other colors. As some of you know COLOR DOES MATTER(SOMETIMES!!!!!!!). THEY WOULD GO RIGHT BACK TO BITING ON THE SALMON EGG COLOR AND WOULDN’T TOUCH THE REST. I really had nothing else in my tails close to that color , so I didn’t get to find out if close shades would work.

BUT WOULD SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT 10-16 INCH BASS THINK THAT LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC IS????? Lawrence

It’s Been a long time since I’ve fished upper 9 though caught many a big bucketmouth when I fished it in the 70’s and 80’s.

My parents have been canoeing/fishing upper pool 9 (Millstone/Visgars area) quite a bit this summer. Catching lots of bass though nothing huge, and a few northerns. This past sunday some J&(%-A$$ swamped their canoe, Dad lost most of his tackle thou retrieved his box and poles, pulled Ma out too. It’s a good thing I wasn’t there, as there is only one way out of that area of the bottoms and I’d have been waiting. Hope the SOB took out his lower unit on a stump!
