Yesterday (friday) was the day that our family with the exception of my oldest sister(in Belize)Would go out on the river in our bigger boat. We were heading out at noon but i wanted to get down to goose island early and see if i could keep up my streak with catching bass on tube baits. I went down and started up and caught a smallie about 10 inches right away. I tossed around a bit and had one big fish on that came off. A few casts later i hooked into something nice again and reeled in a 17+ inch smallie. I waltzed over on the weedier side and sure enough “thump thump WHAM” as i set the hook on a 16 inch largemouth. I figured i had caught all there was to catch on the tube so i switched to a rattle trap. Right away i had something big get off on me: probably a walleye or something like that because it was not coming up at all. I made a couple more casts and caught a 12 inch largemouth before leaving and heading up the road to a heavily wooded area. A couple casts there and a 11 inch crappie had inhaled my tube! Thats not all, as i went back closer to the bridge to fish by some other rocks and got a 15 inch smallie on the tube. At that time, my family was there to pick me up and we went out to our favorite beach: Crater Island near Brownsville minnesota. There are about 10 wingdams on the island that start out above the water and extend into the depths where you cannot see them. I started throwing tubes again, but i was quick to find that this was not hot there. I switched to a craw colored crankbait and caught about a 30 inch northern.
i switched to a jig and a ringworm and caught a 16 inch smallie and before we left, a 17 inch walleye on the crankbait.

On the way home i fished the bridge and caught a walleye on the tube, a 10 inch bass, and a 15 lb.+ cat!

Headed out at about 8 today after getting home from Platteville, WI and Caught two fish both on the tubes: a rock bass and a keeper: 14 inch smallie. Had one small smallie that shook off and lost a big sheephead but i wasnt too upset about that…

bigfish679, Really enjoy reading your reports. Nice job. Say, my oldest son and I will be fishing this Friday around Goose Island – looking for bass. Could use an education on whats working…especially with our family fishing contest this Saturday.

no it was more of a bonus for me because a guy that was catfishing near me hooked into a big one and let me take her…You can read that part under catfish..i just put the pic up because i didnt know what else to do

Our family went on the river on sunday and i caught a 14 inch largemouth in the slop! a 8 inch smallie on a tube, a 13 inch smallie on a texas rig craw, a 14 incher on a tube w/ jig and a nice 16 incher off of a dock while i waited for my mom to go to the bathroom caught it on a blue/silver wally diver…if you are wondering where: it was off the gas dock at pettibone boat club/resturant…it was funny to watch all the fancy people that were eating exclaim over it!

Tagger i would love to help you, but you may be helping me more than the opposite…What’s your preference? smallies, largemouth….Fishing the backwaters or the channel? I got a few spots that would be good to show you, but you can’t let the word out!

    thanks
