Well I really stepped in it tonight. 20 minutes before the Tuesday night Tri-State Bait Shop Bass league,(big fish this week),. I pulled a 22 inch, 4# 1oz Smallie off one of my rock points. Was checking some spots quick for active fish,(hadn’t touched them for 3 weeks), and the second cast it zapped me. Mr. Kordus was nice enough to snap a couple pictures and we finally found one out of four digital scales that didn’t have a dead battery. Then the big ouch. The tourney was won with 2.6lber. Twenty some teams and not many fish. All Nancy and I could do was get bit off by northern and catch walleye. Talk about bad timing. Has anybody notice a real big absence of minnows being chased up the last three days?? Not much seagull activity either. Talked to a BFL PRO and he said if it’s legal it’s going in the live well this week on pool 8. Lawrence Our guide pages

    Lawrance:

I was out last Saturday on Pool 7 and noticed the shad chasing was absent as well. The week before they were everywhere.

I did notice the river was rising, and duckweed was pouring out of the backwaters. Rising water usually makes the fishing tougher, maybe it pulls the baitfish tighter into cover as well?

I think your right. I noticed the pin minnows had left the points and rocks and were huddled in what I call razergrass, and in thick weeds. I never would have found them, but my trolling motor bumped the edge of a clump and a cloud shot out. I noticed last night just before dark that the bass had some 2 inch shad caught on a point .I must have caught 20 bass in 30 minutes. Most barely bigger than the shad ,but two keepers. The little ones grabed the fluttertail I was throwing when it hit the water. Had to go to trap to catch one keeper, and spinnerbait for the other.
