    Just curious how many of you prefer to use an actual pork frog behind a bass jig, or use plastic?
    I either use a plastic frog, craw, or tube.

    90% of the time I use pork in the spring & fall. Grubs & plastic in the summer. { John }

    That is something that is pretty common I think. When the water is cooler pork works best and in the summer plastic.

    I’m curious – is that because the plastic stiffens in cold water temps? I’ve always considered bass fishing a summer sport, and haven’t gone after them much in the fall or spring.

    I think some of the best bass fishing on the river is in the fall, especially for smallmouth. I usually bass fish until the end of October. As for spring fishing, I try and start about mid-April, but usually it is early May. This Memorial Day, I caught a 5 lb. 3 oz. largemouth on a jig/plastic craw.

    So as for pork or plastic, it is personal preference and it all comes down to what you have confidence in. For me it is a craw or a pork frog. I just don’t like a plastic frog. I am begining to put some tubes/crawtubes behind jigs. So I will let you know how that goes.

    I tend to agree with you about the cooler water. A few years back; the texas rigged salt craw was really catchin them in the spring, more so than the smaller profile Jig & pig, I think because of the murky conditions. Then the water temp got pretty warm and the craw bite just died, and got traded for the worm. It’s funny though, I went into this creek that was about 72 degrees & could’nt catch any thing untill I switched back to the craw. The creek & craw situation saved me that day in the Tournament. { John }

    It’s my belief, that you can use the jig n pig at any time. And you can fish it many ways. Swimming it is one of the most productive I have found. It doesn’t matter what the cover. And can be used swmming in open water also. But I like to use plastic all year long. Why, Cuz I always forget to take my pork off on those hot summer days. My favorite plastic is to use a baby guido bug. But that’s my opinion….thanks,,,,,next………..
