I know a lot of you make your own jigs and I was wondering what is the best way to get started. I talked with Riverfan briefly about it back in March and I have been thinking about starting to make my own. Does anyone know of some good resources to get started. Any tips or tricks of the trade that you care to share.

    Thanks,

    Brad,

I make all of my own jigs, in about 20 different head
styles. I pour walleye jigs, for my one walleye fishing
trip a year, and all of my spinnerbait, and buzzbait,
    forms too.

Probably the biggest tip is use good soft lead, and good
sharp hooks. I have gone totally away from vinyl paint,
and now use all powder paints.

Someday I will get a “production pot”, but I have used
a hot plate, and a couple of ladles, to pour lead, for
20 years. I do use “production pots” for pouring
plastics, and they are nice. All of this material
heating ins done in a well ventilated area.

If you have specific questions, shoot me an e-mail.

    Big Bass Bane,
Thanks for your experienced advice. I have also thought about making jigs. I realized the need for quality hooks, but I didn’t know there was a difference in lead.
