I started my bass season off today and it went a little better than expected. I wasn’t sure how things would go with the 100’s of boats chasing eyes, but being the only people chasing bass was nice. We started on some rip-rap at about 8 o’clock and had two largemouth one small one about 1.5 lbs. We went for a little ride and found nothing so we went back to our starting point and with water approaching 45 degrees the fish turned on.

We got a few more dink large mouth and a pretty nice 2-2.5 lber. After a little while without a fish, I finally hooked into a nice 3.25 lb smallie . A little farther up I rolled another that was clearly bigger and then SNAP! 4+ lb smallie and my $20 pointer gone . I held in the swears the best I could. That wrapped up the day for me. I hated to use a pointer, but it ws the only bait I could get bit on. All the fish were in about 1-4 ft of water on rocks with little current. I have pictures, but being behind the times I have to get them developed and than I’ll post. Overall it was a great day on the water and it felt nice to to land my first bass of the year .

    Later,
    Brad

sounds like a great time! I hope to be able to get over to pool 4 before the first part of june to do some searching. I have never fished the miss and we have a zone tournament there so I need to get some idea of what is happening. Just out of curiousity what is a pointer??

It’s that little arrow on you computer screen that you move with your mouse. or it’s a suspending jerkbait by Lucky Craft

thanks. The little arrow on the computer screen I have but not the lucky craft bait. It’s so hard to keep up with all of the baits. and I am not real confident in my crank/jerk bait skills probably why I don’t have any.

BomberA, Were you on lower P4 or Upper? If you were in lower P4, where did you put in?

You are just the person I am looking for. Due to work I am scheduled to be up there around Late May or so for roughly a month and I have heard pool 4 is a decent bass pool. Where are the bass hiding then? I got a fishing hot spots map and it is some big water and due to my smaller boat, I plan on either fishing below the lake or above. Any starters for good areas? Any tips would be appreciated, I don’t have tons of time to search.

The lower end is a lot better. If you have a smaller boat I would put in at Alma or Wabasha. The best advice I can give you is to look at all the reports on this site in the past from Riverfan and Flick.

Cabelas has the original Live Pointer on clearance for $8.49. I bought some in Owatonna a few weeks ago.

ya i think i heard that they retooled them from last year. added some weights so they would suspend evenly or somethen like that. i bet that those are last years models on clearence. that just shows how much markup there is on them baits. if they were selling them for 22 last year and are still making money by selling them for 8 somethen, i wonder how much they really pay for them. i was in dicks sporting goods down to madison last week and they had excaliber cranks for 2 for 4 bucks. needless to say i bought about 30 some bucks worth.
