Now that the top water bite is really in full swing, I would like to ask what is your favorite top water and why?

I personaly like a few but for me my best seems to be a storm chug bug, in the smaller or jr. size. I seem to always catch something with it. The problem is that it cannot get through the salad at all but then I will go weedless.

There are alot of good topwater lures out on the market.. But my favorites are the Heddon Spook an The Heddon Torpedo..I have had luck on all the other ones but i have done the best on these two

In big time slop I love to throw frogs. I have just started to throw flukes and they are awefully fun too.

My favorite is out of production and I have only 3 left. It’s the Crazy Shade by Cotton Cordell. Its about 3″ long with props on each end. Deadly on smallies and stripers. Best tactics was to throw them on riprap shorelines or anchor on the backside of wingdams, cast to the frontside and reel them back in over the top. If you see any for sale let me know.

Honestly, I don’t think I can answer this question. If you are talking smallies, probably a Chug Bug, Pop_R, splash-it, etc. I never catch many on prop baits, any tips on methods Flick? Fast, slow, twitch? In current, slackwater?

Largemouths, definitely a Spook in more open areas, though sometimes a buzzbait is awesome. In the slop, frogs, MossBosses, and texas rigged plastics over the top are all good. I really work a Fluke more sub-surface, so I won’t count it.

I will say one thing, there is positively no other way I would rather catch a bass than on surface lures.

I enjoy the skitter pops myself but I have also found that somedays you can’t out perform an old #9 Original Floating Rap in Silver/Black, just twitching it erratically on the surface.

    Mossboss,
The fish really depend on my retrieve.and how aggressive they are….Somedays all you have to do is reel it over them an they smack it……but others you gotta twitch it in front of them before they hit..I would use all of them..but it seems like you can never go wrong on using a twitch method….most of the time i find myself throwin in current….

Love the skitter pop and the chug bug
Texas rigged plastics over the thick stuff, and let it fall in the holes!

I would have to go with a Spittin Image and a Chug bug depending on how much noise they want. You just have to love the big blast of a good one attacking your bait! Wish we had more smallies down here.

I agree with Flick. The Torpedo and Zara Spook are top notch.I like the Puppy size for finesse Smallies.
