Im sure everyone has seen the new VMC Sure Set Treble Hook being endorsed by the crankbait guru himself (David Fritts). Does anyone have an opinion on these new hooks? I know us boys in the northern states haven’t had the chance to use these yet but come on, use your imagination! I am going to give these new hooks a fair chance in the spring. I really think they could improve your hooking percentage, especially on the fish that are just slapping with a closed mouth. I do NOT think this hook would really utilize it’s larger hook if placed on the front of the bait, only the rear. Comments???

IF you are missing fish that are just slapping the bait, add an extra split ring and it will stop….

I can attest to Jeremy’s statement. He had me add a split ring to a few crankbaits a season ago and I can certainly tell the difference in hook ups. FYI.

With the additional length of an extra split ring, do you have problems with trebles tangling?

Nope, not unless you are using a -1 in which case the hooks are all wrong for the bait in the first place.

So typically what size trebles do you replace with? The same size that is on there when purchased, one larger than the other, etc.? I generally keep my back treble a size smaller then the front. Do others do this?

I do Duckilr. When I change out treble hooks, I have the smaller one in the back.

nope, I use a numer 4 or 6 on both the front and back depending on the size of the crankbait. The larger front hook makes little difference in the 2 sizes but when thay are head striking I want a smaller package so that they get the whole thing in there mouth. The back hook with an extra ring will help in both having extra movement to penetrate as well as have movement when fighting the fish.
