I am going to try Fluorocarbon line this year and I was wondering what pound test to use. In otherwords how does 18 lbs. test fluoro. compare to say 18 lbs. mono? Is the strength the same or is it a much stronger line. Also, are any special knots needed to be used. And last but not least, due to the price, can you reverse a spool after awhile and use the unused end??? I frequently do that with Fireline.

Generally floro lines will be smaller diameter, less stretch and stronger than mono lines however they tend to hold more memory. Depending on how much memory the line may have will determine the best knot. I like to use a polymer knot. I havent tried reversing the spool but would imagine it would work.

All the above made points are true. I think the number one thing to keep in mind with any floro or mono line is diameter. Try to use a floro with a similar diameter to the mono you used last season. Also, being that flourocarbon is a more brittle material than monofilament I have heard that a knot know at the “San Diego Jam Knot” is the best knot to tie with this line. At least that’s what Aaron Martens and David Dudley think.
