Fishing equipment for kids

From the sound of things you are all starting to get a little (maybe big) case of cabin fever going.

Soon it will be time for the big tackle clean up and sorting session.

Here is an idea that I hope many of you will consider.

Set up a cardboard box in which to put give away items. Give away items can be goofy colored worms, jigs with hooks that are to small or lite, grubs that you used to use before you found that new X-grub or any of the thousand of mistakes the tackle police would arrest us for.

Next year when you are standing there with that huge sack of fish and the little kids are all gathered round making you feel like you are the man, or your fishing down a row of docks and the a little kid asks you how your doing. You can reach into the stash of stuff from THE BOX and toss it to them with a kind word and maybe a tip.

You will feel good, the kid will talk about it for days and aside from really being the MAN you will get rid of some of the C#@* in your basement.

It only takes one person to create a new fishermen.

Or another good idea would be to donate it to a local school or summer fun/daycare program. I have took a piece omy my classroom wall and turned it into The Fish Wall Of Fame where I encourage the children/families to bring in photos of their children/family fishing. The problem is that 60% of the children don’t have anything to ad to the wall. I plan on having a few fieldtrips this year so all the children get to try their hand at fishing and have photos added to the wall. I am in need thou of poles and the such if any one is interested in helping me.

Where is the town that you live in? Does anyone ever travel near that town for your job or visiting? There are a couple of great causes that maybe people would be interested in donating to. Muskygirl needs fishing rods and reels and we have another person who lives in Iowa who would appreciate money donations to buy lures etc for a childrens camp.
    Thanks, Bill

You bet! Muskygirl, shoot me a PM and let me know what you could use. I’ve got 75 – 100 new kids rod n’ reel outfits and we only need 60 or so for the ARM event in July.

Any of you bass guys looking for a “warehouse and distribution” guy, I’m it. I’ll gladly take any functional, good/used or new gear off your hands and make sure it finds its way into the hands of a up-start fishing kid in need.

PM me for a mailing address if you’re interested in contributing unused gear to a great cause.

I’m in Wauwatosa and may be able to help with those field trips.

People with good hearts are coming out of the woodwork.

    How cool is that

This was something I was going to bring up any ways latter in the spring but might as well ask now seeing as the post is somewhat started here. If anyone in my area here (or willing to travel)is in the fishing business (guides, shop owners, ect) would be willing to do talk with the kids (we call it a field trip) or show them some things like how to use a pole or show/talk about fish/fishing, it would be great if you could let me know. Planning on having a month long theme on fishing (in the spring). Also, if anyone has or knows where I cold find the stuff, I am looking for coloring sheets/fact sheets about fish/fishing – also stickers and or pins. I am also looking for the fish posters that Sea Grant has with all the different types of fish in Wisconsin. I have a bunch of stuff from the Wisconsin DNR (matter of fact, I have enough that I’d like to give some to the ARM cause).
Thanks for all the help that you guys have beening willing to give and thanks for anything else anyone is willing to do. My kids will be very surprise and happy when they see the fishing stuff. I teach kids that have behavioral/learning problems so when they get a chance to “do something like Ms. Cheri” – they really light up.

I got your PM… I’ll have 15 rod / reel combos out to you next week towards the end of the week. I hope the kids get a chance to put them to use soon!
