Terminators vs. other Titanium baits

Reading the other post about spinnerbaits makes me think of a topic I’ve been meaning to post about. I’ve been using Terminator spinnerbaits for the past couple seasons, and previously had used a traditional wire spinnerbait made by Northland. As far a fish catching effectiveness, I really wouldn’t rank one over the other; however, the memory of the titanium wire is hard to beat. I will never bye traditional wire baits again. I have had a problem with Terminators though. The blades keep falling off, especially on the one’s with the quick change bead. I’m looking for opinions on other titanium spinnerbaits that have hit the market. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm, I still like Terminators the best. They have the best colors and blade options IMO. Make sure the speed bead is pushed all the way down…if it moves, use a little fishin’ glue.

Call me cheap but I have a real problem with a 6.00$ spinner bait. I have a lot of SBs and none of them cost over 3.50 .By the time the skirt is tore up and the paint chewed up I figure I have gotten my monies worth .I fished with a guy in the back of my boat who lost his brand new terminator on the first cast to a nasty ol pike . He might as well sat down for the rest of the day because he was so P.O ed . No thanks Bill Dance, make mine a First Out Magnum Rattler. Just my 2cents.

Dave, I admire that comment!!! I’m a misplaced farmer!! LOL I grew up on a 3000 acre farm in MO and now live in Rochester and work for IBM. MAN do I miss the tractor!!! ANYWAY, that’s now my comment, but thought I would add that. )

Back to the real debate. I don’t use titanium spinnerbaits period. The reason being is I can’t tune them. They run 1 way and that is it! Sure the titanium’s may not bend out of shape, but they also won’t bend INTO shape! No tuning to go deeper, shallow etc. My spinnebait may bend when I hit a rock, but I can bend it back plus make is where I can slow roll it, burn it, fish it deep, slow roll and fish it shallow, etc etc. Can’t do that with the titaniums! Just my 2 cents.

I have a quick question… I’m pretty new at bass fishing and was wondering what you mean by tuning a spinner bait. I know how to tune a crankbait to make it run true. What do you have to do to the spinnerbait to make it run deeper or shallower. All I’ve ever done with a spinnerbait is tie it on and cast it out. Hopefully knowing how to tune it would help me put a few more fish in the boat.

To make it run deep or faster bend the arm with the spinner towards the hook (ie decrease the angle that comes off the line), to run shallow or slow bend the arm away (increase the angle). I am somewhat inept with computers or i would attach a drawing.

Always make sure the hook and spinner arms are in line and it is usually best if when looking at the line tie (down the line) the hook is directly behind it. Hope this helps.

Thanks that will help a lot next time I get out bass fishing. It makes sense now that i think about it because some of my spinner baits run deep and some of them run shallow. Thanks for the info.
