Skippin’ Jigs.

    Hey, boys,

We just spent the last two days on the lake, and here’s the deal:
water temp was 55 to 45 degrees (air temp was about the same.
    Partly sunny.
    20,000 acres.

    Ok, now to the post.

Four patterns tend to dominate on this lake of primary, secondary points and many docks:
Carolina rig: green pumkin -use it or go with out.
    Spinner baits -white or struggle.
Crank bait – gray back/white, black back/white, pearl, green back/gray/white… essentially a Tennesee shad color.
Jigs -black/blue dark water, green pumkin in stained and brown in clearer water. Now, if you ain’t skippin’em, well, you miss 90% of dock fish.

Now, if you’ve skipped jigs before, you know that spinning gear (at least for me) is very easy to use, but there are guys down here (I fished with one today) who can skip a jig with a bait caster through the eye of a needle (I’m talkin’ about 20′ well under a dock). So, the question is, when you skip, do you prefer spinning tackle or bait casting gear?

Also, what was really impressive about these guys is that no matter if they were in the back of the boat or the front, they could skip (back of the boat was back-handed, side arm, and at the front was the normal front-handed, side arm).

Lastly, you guys have an open invitation to come down and fish. Just write, let me know when, and I’ll put ya up (we live near Smith Mountain Lake, Potomac & James Rivers, Kerr and Gaston Lakes).

    Thanks,

    OTW

PS I was told that the E-50 was comin’ to WI… Congrats! They got the cull rule over turned for special events.

I am learning how to skip with a bait caster.I have got pretty good doing it with a senko and a frogg. But with other baits I need alot of work.

Worst part is its hard to practice unless your on the water.

For skipping jigs I use spinning gear,I don’t have a problem Getting the fish out and I can cast better.
