Black River question

Are there some deep water spots to check out for bass in the Black River? The depthfinder goes up and down over some areas, but don’t know if it’s worth fishing. I really need to develop the deep water aspect of my game…a lot of times there’s only little ones up shallow! Also, what’s the deal with Shopko bay? I hear about that spot often…what’s so good about it?

I think their is. I really like the area across from airport beach where the condos are. Its suprisingly deep along that marshy area and a good place to throw deep running cranks. Their is alot of submerged grass in their and I think the largemouth key on it. I think its a good transition area for them and offers them a place to move to deep water when they need to. But for the most part your right the black is like a yo-yo real humpy up and down all over the place.

In regards to Shopko Bay, I see alot of bass guys working th shorelines their. Good rip rap along the I-90 and around the shoreline where the highway is. Ive caught some nice smallies around the I-90 bridge rocks.

Take a c-rig with a zoom fr. fry (watermelon) and fish the humps. Water was real clean up there when I took the time to fish it,a lot of smallmouth hange on those spots.Try and find the scattered rocks on the tops of these humps.Thats the spots to fish the most.Good luck….Remember the Red Man All Am. was won just below there!! Have fun Bass Bull

Thanks! I often feel like there is more we could have done in the boat when we come in from getting skunked after a trip of fishing rip rap. I really hope to spend some time on the water this summer learning more about fishing those deeper spots and getting more familiar with using electronics and all that. It’s always too easy to head to the nearest shoreline cover and start casting
