Hey everyone, I’m back from my annual winter hiatus…I don’t ice fish, so I don’t stop by FTR too much in the winter. Anyway, look forward to another great season on the water and posting on FTR!

Anyway, got out for the first trip of the year today. Found a lot of small bass off a little tiny island by Pettibone Park. Nothing along some flooded weeds in Target Lake w/ a spinnerbait. Ended up pitching tubes to flooded brush up in some backwaters off the Black river and got a few small bass plus one decent smallmouth.

Anyone else been out? How’d it go? I’d love to hear if anyone found some better fish. It seemed pretty slow…there was a tournament of some kind and the water was about 53 degrees.

I was up there this whole weekend and fished pool 8 on Saturday and had did pretty good on the smallies, went to pool 9 on Sunday and did even better. I found them working on rip/rap banks in 6 to 8 ft. of water, some or no current seemed the best. I didn’t fish much for largemouth, so I don’t have any report for you there. There was a Team Supreme Tournament there today, and from what I saw and heard at the weigh in the smallies ruled. There was 54 boats and I guesstamated the total weight of fish to be around 800 lbs of fish at 6 fish limit per boat. Of that estimate, probably 95% of the bass were smallies, and taken anywhere from pool 7 through 9.

Best of luck on your future outings, Fish On.
