Pool 9 Tuesday

    All,
Decided that the last nice day in the forecast was too much for me to pass on and spent a vacation day on pool 9 Tuesday. Well worth it. Spent most of the morning mid-pool with very active fish but very little size. We tried bigger presentations and smaller presentations to try and get the bigger fish to turn on with little success. (biggest fish of the day was a 2-1/2 lb largemouth). Spinner baits, crankbaits, tubes, top water, you name it, it worked on the dinks. My question to everyone is this. Put yourself in the situation I was in yesterday and tell me how you would react. Right know, I couldn’t tell you what I would have done differently. 9 hours on the water is plenty of time to employ back up plan #1 thru #10. (none of which worked). Thanks for the forthcoming insight

did you try dead sticking? Bass seem to get lazyer as they get older.
Sometimes the more frustated I get the faster I present the lure.
Years ago I could’nt understand why it seemed that the older fellas
seemed to get the bigger bass more often then I started watching their
presentations being a slower methdical in the areas that big Bass come
from. Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree

    Chris,
You were most likily no in fishy areas.
This time of year they are bunched up meaning less places but more when you find them. You should get yourself into Desoto and look for bites in the main lake across from the docks. This is a well known wintering area.

    Jeremy,

We tried the north end of Desoto only to find three other bass boats thinking the same thing. We found fish in quantity almost everywhere we went. Just not the quality.
That is what puzzled me so much. Usually you’ll get a mixture of sizes when you find a quantity of largemouth but that just wasn’t the case. Puzzling

    Gill,

I thought the same thing. Larger profile baits dead sticked. So I fished a Sinko in several places with the same result. 1 lb fish. I even downsized the Senko with the same result.

Go with a magnum spook and see what happens.

Drop shotting a spook on a 6″ leader 2ft off the bottom is dynamite this time of the year!!! I recommend a 2oz weight too.

Hard to pass up fly fishing spooks this time of year. Proven winner there Don’t forget your hard hat
