Got on the water Saturday for a day of fishing. What a mistake Labor Day weekend is not a good time to be on the water for fishing. My fish have moved alittle but im sure the boat traffic had something to do with it Did manage to get a few on crank baits off of secondary points in the backwater

    Nice fish, DanWi!

Slop and I went out yesterday too. We put on the ol’ waders and found a few fish on the lake. We couldn’t believe the thickness of the slop…but they were unbelievably striking our rats through that stuff! All the fish we caught were good-sized…all over 2lbs!

    Here I am with a 2.5+ LMB.

Yeah…that was some of the nastiest slop we’ve ever fished. Not a lot of fish, but all were good sized, pushing 2.5-3lb’s. Really healthy fat, dark fish. Our key was to upsize our rats. We were throwing the Jumbo Sized tournament series frogs…Those things are monsters, but produced enough vibration that the fish could detect the bait. Also, the slop was so thick, it often took 2 or 3 strikes before the fish would actually get it down. It was kind of nice to throw back in the same spot 4 times and have the same fish keep attacking the lure .

That last fish pictured of me, we couldn’t tell if I still had the fish on. I pulled in about 4-5lbs of slop, B.C. reached down and found the fish

Just curious, but how often do you use a spinning reel for froggin in slop? Was it just a versatility thing because you were wading, or is there more to it?

I use a spinning rig a lot in slop. I go with, 10#xt or a bunch of different superlines, and a leader. I use a medium to medium heavy 7Ft-9ft rod.

Would I recommend it….well all I’m gonna say is that I have yet to loose a fish, because I couldn’t pull it out of the junk. I have had to boat to the fish sometimes, though.

I really have no choice in this situation since many guide customers can’t cast a baitcaster. Amazingly…for whatever reason I do have a much better hookup ratio,(at least 2-1 while I was keeping track), when I use the the spinning set-up. Possibly since I am right handed??????

Gianni, It’s just personal preference to me. I can pitch and flip w/baitcaster all day….and use them fine in open water, but when i’m in slop, i’m just more confortable with a spinning rod. I think i get a better hookset. Whatever works best for ya though

Here are a few of the fish that we caught at one of my local hot spots. Plenty of 12 to 14 inchers around but small water = smaller fish.

Thanks guys, now I’ve got (yet) another thing to think about… I had always figured that for powersetting the hook, the caster was the way to go since I usually have the butt resting against my waist. Now I’m not sure what to think.

Hey Dodge, I think there’s something wrong with that bass in the second pic… he don’t look healthy to me!

Hey, he hit that 6″ paddle tail rigged texas style in that laydown. So I decided to get a picture with him, but I thought he was alittle skinny.
