We caught some nice fish and had a great time but what you’re seeing there is Mille Lacs being pretty darn stingy. On a good day, maybe even a fair day, it’s a dream come true.

It must be an awesome fishery. Do you suppose there might be a few to chase in October?

Given some warm weather we’ll have a shot at them. There’s a couple north end rock humps and a point that load up with them that time of year. Water temps will tell the tale though.

    John,

Back when I used to rig alot for walleyes in the daytime hours in the fall period, I would score some huge smallies on big sucker minnows in 12-15 foot of water right off some of the deeper rock piles looking for walleyes. If I had any smarts then with plastics, I would have targeted them more that way. Like James mentioned, weather can be crucial that time of year up there where one day of the sun shining can spark these fish midday into hitting topwaters still. Burning big white spinnerbaits in early October was one of my best ways to triggering strikes. Like all smallies in the fall periods, find one and you will find a pile of them!

    James, Steve,

Just go back from Le Homme Dieu, 1 shower and no shave for four days. I doing my sunshine dance and praying to the weather and fish gods. What does that do for your imagenation?
