Wanted to get some action on the board- when the shad hatch what style and size of lure do you guys use to catch the bass? Im not looking for your magic formula, just some input onto what works well for some others. I think there are 2 options- very small to mimic the fry or medium/large sized to imitate panfish and yearlings which feed on the fry. I seem to do best with small shallow running cranks and small white spinnerbaits, as well as soft plastics (senkos, flukes), but i also seem to catch a ton of short fish doing this and very few quality (>2.5 lb) bass, although when i up-size i dont get many hits and the size does not seem much better. Is this because the lure is too small, or im not fishing in the right spot or not away from shore enough on secondary structure? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

4 inch ring worm black neon body with a pearl white tail
i also dye the pearl tails chartruse on ocassion, also purple and white. and black and powder bule

another bait of choice is a 4 inch black with powerder blue pinchers salt craw or black and silver claw

if i cant get any bigger fish to bite i go to a white jig with a ring worm on the back

or go to a 6 inch version in black and pearl or yellow

although these are good all year round the little tails seems to do excelent till the shad get over 2 inches
