Well the roof is done, the garage is cleaned out, the carpets are cleaned, and the honey do list is wittled down to a minimum! It’s time for fishing! Went out this afternoon for about 5 hours. started fishing in new areas I had never fished in and using a style I had never used with success in the past. Fished slop with a frog lure i bought a Cabela’s last fall and did some spinner bait casting. Ten minutes in, this four pounder slammed my spinner bait just on the edge of the weeds. (attachment) I thought this was a good sign. We moved deeper into the slop and I switched to the frog bait. Second cast, BANG a little one pounder hit the lure! Another great sign! Well the night wnet on like that with the exception of we just couldn’t manage to hook up all the fish that were slamming our lures! I bet we had twenty more absolute monsters hit stay around for a few seconds of fight then just let go! We tried pausing after the strike only to have them do the same thing. Hooks were sharp, set was strong, but they all managed to get off .
all in all though, a real fun night and good company!

    Thanks, John

Nice fish, I don’t think a frog lure is slop.

    Labman,

Your picture and report have me excited for getting out this weekend. My brother is driving out from Wyoming and I hope that we get on some fish at Goose Island. I’d love to post some pictures like yours in a few days.

Also, my brother is a trout fisherman and is going to bring his fly rod to try and catch a few bass. We’ll see how that goes. I’m sure after a pike tears him up, he’ll put that big flimsy rod down and get serious.

    Later,

    CR

My brother from Wyoming came in on Friday so we went out to Goose Island Saturday morning until about noon and boated a dozen or so LM like the one pictured above (that’s Carter holding the fish). No monsters, but plenty of fish to keep us busy. We caught them on white ringworms, Superior top waters, and spinner baits. Found them under the slop, along lily beds, and in the timber. Thanks JC for the tips you shared.

I only boated one of the fish and beat my prop up on a stump. Regardless, it was a fine day to be on the water.

The best part of the trip was that we brought my video camera and recorded most of our catches. Our younger brother Clay is currently serving in the army in Iraq and we will send our fishing trip tape and greetings to him. He and his comrades have been away from their homes since January 1, and don’t expect to get back until next spring. I can’t imagine what life has been like for them, but certainly appreciate what they are doing. From the reports that Clay sends me, they seem to be making life better for most of the Iraqis, contrary to what we see reported on the news.
