Somehow we must have missed each other out there…

What time did you guys finally hit the water? The bite seemed furious from 5:30 AM – 6:30 AM… slower after that. Northerns picked up later, though.

    Nice Sheepy!

We hit the water about 7:30, then we spent most of our time on the upper end of 7. We were targeting main channel fish. It was about 11:30-12:00 when we started trying backwater sloughs and bays.

The northern were on the chew for us too. JC boated a nice gator over 30″. It’s soaking in a bag of frozen water in the freezer now. That was the last jig that fish ate.

    Mmmm… sounds good!

On a different note… the Trempealeau landing is SO AWEFUL and getting worse. When water gets to normal levels, you will *have* to launch all the way to the north end of the landing, or you will back your boat right into that sand-bar. Then, in 2002, when they did that dredging, it worsened the sitaution with further silatation by the landing.

I heard that the DNR had appropriations to re-do the launch in 2003, but the funds were transfered to building the launch further down the road for the 2nd lake launch (not sure if that is second lake there or not.)

Any word on them fixing the ramp? Not sure if your “connections” knew anything.

All I know is you’d better get to Catfish Day’s tourney VERY early to get launched! 130+ boats will be interesting with the launch conditions.

When I used to fish the Catfish Days tourney, we always put it at Dresbach and drove up from there. A lot less hassle.

I don’t believe they are allowing that anymore. In 2003 they upped the dollars from $65 to $100 and require a full equipemnt search (livewells, etc.)… not sure that would be allowed anymore. If so, that is a GREAT idea!

Thanks, Blue. Hey – you and JC shoudl fish it… July 10th!

We have a Team Supreme tourney the next day. We’ll be saving what fish we have for a better payday!

As for the boat search, they always had someone come down to the landing where we parked and go through the boat. I’m not sure they still do that either though. I haven’t fished a Catfish Days tourney in about 3 years.

BTW, why do they have a Catfish Days tourney for Walleye and Bass only? That’s like having a Tupperware party at the Gin Mill. It just don’t make sense.

They force you to choose now… Bass *or* Walleye… if you want to fish both, you have to pay DOUBLE the entry fees! As for a tupperware party at the Gin Mill… sounds like a plan!

And, Blue – Good luck on July 11th for your TS Tourney!

As far as I know, it’s always been that way. I have friends that fish both divisions and have had to pay for both. It’s only fair I guess.

Actually, Blue, when I started fishing it (99) you could enter both without paying double, but had to pay for both BIG FISH pots… anyway, we are dealing with my memory, so perhaps I’m wrong… come to think of it, if my memory serves me right, I am President and better get back to serving the country!
