Out Fishing Today…

We had our season #1 final tourney today out of Shafer’s Landing on pool 7. 7 Boats in total. 6 stayed and fished the lake with limited success.

Although the water was clear(er) than the remainder of Pool 7 on the lake, my dad (Load-A-Ranger) and myself were brave and ran from Shafer’s clear to the north end of the pool to find smallies. Water was M-O-V-I-N-G and dead-heads were everywhere. We had to take ‘er easy on the drive up the channel.

We had some success (see attached) with a couple Smallie’s just under 3#. A front came through and rained on us ~9:30 and shut the fishing down. The Smallies could be found before then… but worked hard for the fish after the front. Mostly plastics (tubes, lizards, worms) pretty heavily weighted for the roaring river.

JC/Blue – Did we see you up Nort’? We were in a 18′ Red Ranger. I believe that was you in the White TR-20 and the 200 Merc… Thanks for moving into our spot… We worked that wall a bunch all morning… further north, too. Did you have any success? Fish seemed tight-lipped about the time we saw you and gave-up the pattern to try something else.

Ypu, that was us. Your Ill. boat tags threw us off. Did you stick those 2 fish in that bay? All I got was bit off. Presumably by a toothy critter. That bay is good for a few of them.

I know… I have hung my head in shame before, having to admit I was once a FIB…

And, my dad still is… He is a Wisconsinite at heart, though, so I assure you he should be forgiven!

Yup… but about 4 hours earlier. The bay shut down after the front at about 9… Toothy critters were still around though.

Moral of this story… don’t always judge a boat’s occupants by the tags!

The way it sounds, you were off the water by the time the 4pm tsunami rolled in. I wish we would have been off the water. We were seigning water up on Third Lake. It was a long ride back to the landing. That rain and wind was awful.

The best part of the day was the over-sized burgers at Hungry Point. Oh, and the Jack Daniels Hard Colas were nice too.

Yep, Those were some good burgers.
Reel Guy, We figure you were some out of staters just roaming about looking for some fish for an up and comming tourney. We were just out beating up some fish for fun. You should have shouted. We would have gladly found some other area that was fishable in this high water. As for your tourney… You would have been a happy camper if you would have ran into us later up in the lake. -grin- If you didn’t win you could have.

How was the bite on the lake for the rest of the guys? Did you earn any $$$ w/ your 2 fish?

Those two smallies placed us 2nd on the day, but I placed 1st in the Tourney Season. Here is a good picture of the day’s winners… LMB off the lake.

Hungry Point? Is that in Dresbach?

No problem, by the way. We needed to head back to the landing anyway. So, you found fish on Lake Ona, or the 3rd Lake area in Tremp?

Despite everyone’s efforts, Gman did manage to pull it out a Season 1 victory. Congrats on a last day win.

His predictions of my early season Boat woes came true…as I was not a season 1 factor after week 2.

Season 2 = Season of the SLOP!!!

Hungry point is a bar/restaurant up by the Tremp dam. GREAT food. COLD Beverages

After the time we had on 3rd Lake, who needs Lake Onalaska.

Season of the Slop huh. Here’s my new Slop Frog for this year.

Now don’t be givin’ away all my secrets! I see those things being a staple in my tackle arsenal, right next to the swimmin’ jig and drop shot.
