I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day. A special thanks to our veterans.

So, did anyone get out this weekend fishing between rain showers? I got out Friday evening for a couple hours with my boy, dog, and wife… a couple smallies tight to the rocks… This was my son’s “first fish”… he thought it was cool… See attached.

I saw a bunch of big boats flying around the Dresbach landing on Sunday afternoon. I think I saw a gold Champion… Hmmm… wonder who that could be…

I made it out Fri, Sun, and today. Friday we caught a few smallies. The weather was good for a change. Sunday was not a good day for fishing for us. We went to Owatonna in the morning, then decided to hit the lake for a while when we got back. I don’t think we were 100 yards from the landing when the wind picked up and the sky opened up and dumped on us. No fish were caught that day in our boat . Today wasn’t too bad, except for those pesky eyes getting in the way. Now, I don’t mind catching eyes, just not when I am trying to find bass . The only bass we could find were short, and they were short . The DNR warden was also nice enough to pay us a visit while we were fishing a rockpile. He motored right on in and checked our licenses and livewells. Right after that the Sheriff boat came by, so the law enforcement was out in force . It would have been nice not to have gotten so wet, but at least I had 3 1/2 days off in a row .

I was out Sat. for a while ,not many biters .19 is close to flood stage and the Coast Guard has been discouraging all boaters because of the debris . It is really a mess . Have a tourny next week and if you guys keep sending all this water down here its going to be dangerous How about holding some of that water back so we can fish next weekend. Its not up to JC s house yet

    ReedGuy,
that’s a pretty darn nice Smallmouth for the little guy, would not mind hearing a fish story on how that went down. would be fun. most little people start out with a 3 inch Bluegill for their first fish. nice start. Jack.

Jack… sorry… I put “first fish” in quotes for a reason!!!!

My son (17 months old), wife, dog, and I decided to head to a sand bar Friday… we enjoyed it… He loves the sand and rocks, and “stuff” you find on the sand bars. I asked my wife if she minded “watching” him while I fished a wall or two for smallies… under the guise that I wanted my boy to see his “first fish”…

    So, I caught him a few…

He thought they were very interesting (as you can see from his facial expression). He touched them, kissed them, and when I released them… got very upset with his daddy…

So, I had to catch him another…

You see the biggest of the day at the top, just short of 3 and ~18″. Quite a wonderful day, Friday. Sure wish the rest of the weekend would have cooperated!

So, he’s “hooked” and now I wait until next summer and I will buy him his first St. Croix!
