I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the bass fishing is like in pool 3? Is the smallie fishing better than the largemouth fishing? Are the bass in pool 3 spawning?

due to the huge responce of my question about the fishing on pool 3 I take it that not alot of attention is given to the bass fishing on pool 3. I woukld be willing to share some info on bass fishing the wolf river, {winneconne} with anyone who could help with pool 3 bass fishing, my track record fishing winneconne speaks for itself, may be able to help you out for the BFL. Thanks, Carl

There’s not a lot good said about pool 3. Your best bet is for smallmouth on the main river. There aren’t a lot of back waters or sloughs to look in. The area around the casino looks like it could hold fish, but I have busted my a$$ in there and come up short everytime.

I’d be willing to help you out however you want. I could use some info on the Wolf. I passed up the chance to fish the Mr. BASS tournament because I have never heard anything good about the Wolf.

Are you coming here to fish and looking for help or do you just want general info?

BomberA, I am coming to fish around Red Wing in early June, I have fished pool 4 before but have yet to fish 3. I can help you out fishing the Wolf, the reason you have heard bad things about the Wolf is because it can be a tough body of water to fish at times, if you have 14 to 16 pounds of fish you win over 90 percent of the tournaments, big bass is anything over 4 pounds and I have only seen 3 bass over 5 pounds. Most tournament anglers do not like tough bodies of water, I think you learn more on tough bodies of water. I would be glad to give you some tips and areas that have been real good to me over the years, any thing you can offer in return on pools 3 and 4 would be great.

    Dash,
Pool 3 would qualify as a tough body of water. I have really never had a great day on that pool. You can always catch a small limit there, but I have yet to get a good 5 bass bag there. I would spend your time on 4, and the Croix. If it’s the Everstart your fishing, I would imagine you will have a lot of company on the Croix. That clean water is hard to resist. You should find a few fish around the marinas and wing dams in Prescott. Also you might want to check out the sand bars in front of the creeks and rivers that dump into 3. Maybe some of the cuts that dump into North Lake and Stourgeon Lake might have a few fish. There is a island down from Prescott that has a closing dam behind it, maybe you could snag a few smallies off of that. Good Luck. I hope you make the cut. BC

I havn’t fished Pool3 to much, but I do remember one year when ST.Judes went out of Treasure Island the anglers who won it, caught all there fish in pool3. Not a good pool or under fished for bass I don’t know?
