Fished kind of a split shift Sat. 8:30 t0 11:00 Am, then went over to Clements fishing Barge to put in an appearence for the yearly customer appreciation fish fry. Then I fished from 12:30 to 1:30 and ran to Onalaska to weigh my two biggest fish to that point at Memorial tourney. Then back to the river to fish from 4-6:30 ish.
Best 6 fish were 4.2# Bucketmouth 18.5 length 14.75 girth, 3.1#, 2.9, 2.9 , 2.7 , 2.5….18.3#s my best six fish bag of the year…all the other keepers were in the 1.5-2.3# range. I ran into another boat up to fishing float that took a picture of the BM. I will edit and post the picture as soon as I get it back.
5 of those six fish came in the late afternoon
The bigger fish other than the 4.2#er all came on sand shorelines above wing dams(caught 3 northerns right in their midst???), and the 4.2 came from the top middle of a wingdam on crayfish brown tube. The others came on a black tubes,watermelon green K-grub (sprayed with Bang crayfish) ,and the 3.1#er on somebody’s firetiger rattlie trappie crank. I would have missed all but the 4.2#er if I hadn’t seen the BM moving farther up the shore each day, and got hit by the pike almost right away when I cast up the shore.(one of the categories for the memorial tourney). Shoreline sprayed with silver shiners everytime I cast. No small bass in the group. I guess they didn’t want to be anywhere near the gators.
Oh yah and I also made a $5370. big frickn lunkhead,(BFl), mistake, too. I had signed up as a co-angler earlier in the year and found out later that a second person had also signed up with the same pro so I removed myself from the situation. I had been humming and hawing about biting the bullet to move up from 1 year old 16.9″ boat to a seventeen footer and fish the whole BFL circuit as a Pro. Obviously I didn’t because I’m to cheap… and look what it cost me. Pleeeaaaseee don’t tell my wife.
