This morning when I woke up it was in the upper sixties and humid out. (this is around 7 in platteville wisconsin) By the time I get back to LaCrosse (12) It has cooled down to upper fifties and a brisk wind is picking up out of the north. I Grumble but decide to hook up the boat anyways. Sooo… I get to the landing and I see none other than almost two dozen bass boat trailers and pickups littered with teamsupreme stickers. I’m just tickled(Anyone pick up the sarcasm?) I haven’t fished in almost two weeks and now my first time out the weather sucks and the crowd is horrible. So being the optimistic fishermen I am I say screw it and go anyway. I head first to some reliable easy fish spots. And not only is there a boat in half of them but another one floating near by on deck. So poking casts in where i can i get sloppy one hundreths on about every good spot. A few hours later and only abour a half dozen bass of which the biggest was only about 2.5 I call my friend and he meets me at 3. We decide that we are going to think opposite to all these pros and go where none of them would think so we can find untouched fish. Well we succeded! Our first two spots flopped but the third boated several upper two pounders, and a 20+ in smallie.(i’ll post the pics as soon as i can) We were thrilled and continued on. The next spot was also a treat giving us 3 spawned out females in the mid and lower threes. All in all we did quite well for the conditions we were given. we prob could have squeezed out about 20-23lbs for 8 fish. Maybe a hair more. All and all today was fun despite all the set backs just becuase it was a perfect example of how to adapt. I have never been faced with so many variables i have never delt with before and it was fun to be so challenged. I guess thats what these big tournaments are all about. Hopefully some day I can be battling it out with the gentlmen who have the knowlage and skill underpressure to do well in these events.
