Was just browsing through the 2004 Minnesota fishing regulations on the DNR website and see a new regulation. It states “Once a limit of fish has been reduced to possession, no culling or livewell sorting of that species is allowed.”
Does that mean bass tournaments in Minnesota will now have to be no-cull tournaments like Wisconsin? Or am I reading it incorrectly…. I hope I am!

No it doean’t,thats why an single or pro/am event has a 5 fish limit as long as you don’t box the 6th fish you can keep on sorting your fish, sorting and culling are two diferent things.

DaveC is right on, I called the DNR a few months ago when this topic came up, what Dave said is what the DNR told me. and for that reason that is prob why tourney’s are 5 fish events and not 6 fish. Jack.

I don’t know the facts on this item, but rumor is that you topped the scales in the Gander Mtn. pro/am event. Is this true? If you did, Hot Damb! Way to Go! Fishnut

Well Jason is it true? I’ve been trying to find out who won and the answer I get is someone new on the tour. Come on, lets hear about it.

The way I undrstand the law through many discussions with the Lake City, Mn DNR office is once you put a fish in the live well, it’s in posession. You cannot return that fish to the water – period. No matter if you possess one fish or a full limit.

Sporst Anchor, that wording has been in the Mn border water regulations for many, many years.

Yes, I know its hard to believe, but I did win the Gander this weekend! My first tournament on the tour and a $10,000 check, pretty good start! My amateur partner, Jimmy Brand and I caught a limit of fish weighing 23.6 lbs. Just a perfect day where every decision was the right one. Now I’ll start worrying about getting spanked on Minnetonka in June.
