Tanic Water & Lure Colors.

Ok, do you recall my last post of “You Make The Call?” What I didn’t tell you (my fault) was that the water is tanic in color.

What I’ve come to learn is this: Browns, blacks & june bug colors in a larger (1/2oz jig size) seem to work well (I’ll find this out this eve.).

I can follow some of the reasoning.

But even though we have dark water here, we have a sand-kinda-muck bottom… Wouldn’t that sand-kina-muck bottom influence the crawdad’s color more so than the water color?

And, in regards to the larger profile lure -jig-… The size makes it easier for the bass to find? The lure size stands out to the bass more?

    Thanks ,

    OTW:

I have found a copper bladed spinnerbait works well in the dark and tannic colored waters.

I would think the bottom would have more influence on the appearance of the crawfish, but the darkness will effect the amount of light penetration, which will influence color, or at least color perception.

I wouldnt worry so much about the color, especially if you are having a hard time locating any fish,

What works for me in this situation is covering as much water as possible using a confidence bait ( for me it is a spinnerbait or small crank, and tube jigs at the targets, use a color that you are confident in because it’s all about finding the fish
