Are buzzbaits effective this time of year and when using a buzzbait do you ever put any kind of skirt on or just fish them right out of the package?

    Bomber,
I’m not sure I understand what you said about putting on a skirt? Don’t most buzzbaits come w/skirts to begin with?

I was throwing one on tuesday and had some hits on it. We were doing better w/PopR’s though. I guess i’d only throw one on if the weed growth was too thick for a spinner.

Buzzbaits can be very effective this time of the year. Warm water bays usually are the ticket, especially the back end of the bay. I will throw a gold bladed buzzbait in shallow bays when I know the sun has warmed the bay up. I retreive it as slow as possible making sure to bump into any structure available. Floating Rapalas and Spooks work too. That in itself is another issue.

Sorry, When I wrote skirt, I meant like any kind of trailer like a hula grub . Or is lure appeal not a large concern because you are mainly looking for a reaction strike.

I always put a trailer on my buzzbaits. To me, it’s like fishing a jig w/o a pork or plastic trailer. The same goes for a spinnerbait too.

I can tell you several anglers were using them this past weekend at the state tournament, and catching keeper bass. Seems like 53-55 degree water seems to help. Can’t help you on the color or trailer combinations.

Hey guys BomberA is on track with the skirts on buzzbaits. I have read that if you keep getting short hits when using buzzbaits to remove the skirt. They claim that moves the fishes focuse more in the direction of the sound and not the skirts. Yes trailer hooks are a must but just something else to help put a few more fish in the boat.

With colder water conditions I like to use smaller buzzbaits with trailer hooks.

Out of boredem and sheer curiosity I threw a clacker today. I caught some dinks but in the summer it’s the only buzzbait i’ll throw.
