I have had the opportunity to get out for a few and have done pretty well. Not great numbers but the size has been really good. In three days I have caught three 3+lbers and 2 in the low 4s. For the acreage that I am fishing it is really good. I have noticed that the bite has been primarily with the bigger fish. My guess is that these are the females preparing to spawn, (guessing). Why are they more aggressive than the others??
Have many of you found the same thing?

ps. a jerkbait with the twitch and pause has been the ticket for me.

You are right , the big bass are usually the first ones ready to bite. March and early April can be the best time to score a personal best.

Just wondering… What water temp did you have?

    Thanks,

Water temp? i am guessing at low-mid 50’s

I am fishing in a backwater lake with only a limited access to the river so these are permenate residence. The depth has been from 2’to about 6′ with a fair amount of weed still around from last year and already starting to grow this year. My guess is that this area has warmed up faster than the rest so there is a bit more action. Have not tryed the deeper water yet though, having to much fun in the shallows.

Has anyone else found the same thing with a direct river access backwater?

Remember to let these beauties swim again!

sounds great. I’m going to get out on Pool 8 and give those green backs a try tonight, and I had planned on fishing in a shallow back water lake that fits the description you were talking about. I have killed them there before but not until the air temp is around sixty or higher and the water is still cold. I assume though that they will still be there. I will keep you guys posted.
