Anyone know when this may occur? I have a buddy coming from Madison and want to do some Smallie fishing on Pepin.

thought I heard the Corps of Engr already started their ice breakers on the south end of the lake.
if that is so, it will go pretty quick, and I might add that then there will be a bunch of ice leaving the lake, and going down river through wabasha and beyond. that might be a good area to avoid for awhile with all the ice chunks. Jack.

Sorry it took so long to get on. Lake pepin was still pretty froze over. It didn’t really start opening up until stockhome. I am guessing it will be a bit before anyone can get out there. Maiden Rock was starting to look pretty good, but still some good ice along the shore.

It’s all gone, it went out overnight (Saterday night) Sure don’t understand how it happens so fast. The ice sheet covered the whole lower half of the lake Saturday afternoon. The water temp at Red Wing was 48 degrees and if we ever see the sun we should have 50 degrees everywhere.

    Thanks,
Also has anyone been to the public boat launch by the Pickle Factory? Is it flooded or can a person launch from there? Is there a better public boat landing on the south end of Pepin when the water is high. How about the North end? Thanks in advance for any info. I will be out smallmouth fishing this weekend on Pepin and the backwaters of the Miss. at the south end.

What will you be fishing out of? I’ll be there with my 11 year old son in a 20ft grey and maroon Champ with a 225 merc. Say Hi if you drive by!
