Yo – After 4 months of solid Walleye fish’n, my old Bass fish’n juices are start’n to go when I think about it !! Why, are us northern guys alwas last to get on band wagons? It wasn’t until the southern bass guys came up and won a million bucks on Minnetonka that most of us learned what a Carolina

rig was. Now the hot rig is the Dropshot !!

I tried this rig last fall on my annual fall swing thru Northern Wisc. Crimeny did my eye get opened. What a simple but effective rig !! !/4-3/8 oz weight at the bottom, a polimor tied #2 wide gap bait hook, 8-12″ up, with a 4″ ring worm and voila thats the rig.

Work this rig at 45degs or vertical along a defined weed edge, pocket, deep rocks, points or sunken lumber (I’m only scratch’n the surfice, because I don’t have enough time with it yet !)

Berkley, and about every body else has a hole line up of baits for this rig.

Add this rig to your repertoire, you won’t regret it !!!

Talked to a tackle rep. at the trade show in the Quad Cities a couple of weeks ago. He was telling about this rig. He said when you tie your polimor knot leave 12 to 15″ on the loose end and put your weight on the end of it. You are suppose to be able to move your hook and ringworm up and down without re-tieing. Haven’t messed with it yet, but sounds like it should work.

Yo Lead – missed ya at the show ! No ya can’t move the rig once you tie the knot, besides its such an easy setup it only takes a minute to retie anyway! Actually, I’m going to experiment with some bigger baits. Fish’n weed lines and pockets in those clear fertile N. Wisc. lakes I was bothered by gill, crappie, and the usual pike bit-offs.!!!!

maybe what the guy meant by adjusting is that if you use one of the “drop shot” weights with the tapered swivel, you can attach this anywhere below the palomar/lure- ie you can leave 12 inches tag end but attach it half way and move it if needed. this works pretty well and is one advantage of spending the extra cash to get the special weights.

You are right bassbaron. Talked to my buddy that I went to the show with and he remembered it just like you said. If I could write I’d write things down!

I think it will be very effective on bedding bass also. I can picture a small lizard hooked wacky style dangling in front of a big ol mamma bass on the nest. You can just shake it there till she gets tired of it . Just cast it past and drag it to the nest.

Say if everyone like’s this drop shotting thing Great name by the way…I have been guiding for years and when you take a bunch of kids and you don’t want to re-tie all the time.

You tie your hook on with a palmor knot leave a tag end 6 to 12 inches long then just apply split shot..If you really want to be creative you can add a bobber to the appropriate depth above hook..And walla a rig you don’t have to re-tie just add split shot…When you have a boat full of kids this is a great way to keep your hands free to bait and unhook fish..Cause I hate to keep replaceing hooks…usually all you lose is the split shot when it snags….This works great in rip-rapped areas… Just my two cent’s worth wished I had coined the phrase DROP SHOT….. ten years ago…LOL
