Hello, and thanks for the topic!

Giving the DNR more power is cerainly foolish. I’ve dealt with them a numbe of times, regarding lake levels and the like, and I can tell you that as much as we have our own interests, so does the DNR.

If it were up to the DNR, there wouldn’t be any fishermen or hunters. Think this is a bit to far? They’re trying to rid themselves of Beaver Dam Lake & Lake Puckaway. Oh, that Jim Congdon of the DNR is so smart! Not!

So far, all that the DNR has touched has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Best thing for the State of Wisconsin to do is to close the DNR before they do any additional damage to our water ways, woods & fields.

What would we have then? How about the Department of Wildlife Management.

    Here’s a quick little ditty.

The BFL Wild Card two years ago was held West Point Lake in GA.

The Mayor, the Chief of Police and the Chamber of Commerce were all at the meeting, thanking us for all coming. It was estimated that we anglers, in three days, brought in 1.5 million into their economy. Need I write any more? I didn’t think so.

Oh, I cannot help myself… When was the last time the DNR did anything to bring that much $ into a local economy? I’d submit that they’ve truly done just the opposite .

    That’s my view.

    Thanks,

humm i dont know here im from out of state and we cull our fish our dnr guy here says the reasons for the cull rule was for fish on stringers dying then catching another fish and throwing the dead one back

i dont agree with them to allow culling only in 4 tournoments this looks like a ploy to get a b.a.s.s and a flw event, then who gets the other 2 culling breaks?

Listen, the thought of politics in fishing is insane. The whole issue is revenue. Revenue that has seemingly been misplaced and the honorable politician in question, has been crying foul for at least five years. His argument is nebulous. He conceals the issue with misdirection. Seventy bass boats doesn’t even begin to touch the chaos that ten cigarette boats create. As they continue their sixty-eight mile an hour trek up and down the river they continue to show their over compensation for what they lack. Beer, boobs and open port exhausts isn’t exactly the fair trade off the honorable politician is hoping for. In direct confrontation he becomes dismissive and appropriately disarmed. The issues are not bass boats, they are not creel limits, it is not even about culling; it is about power, authority and the abuse of both. It becomes simple, provide a permit, develop data, create a problem, become a problem solver, get re-elected. Recently, a challenge was set before several sub-committees; change the wording on the fishing license and you will probably have a legal stance. Until fishing licenses say “catch and release only”, you have a legal issue!! If I am not mistaken, the largest income source in the great state of Wisconsin, is tourism. I’m sure we can uncover sub-system data that would reflect revenue generation through in-state and out-of-state fishing licenses. I find it hard to believe the right honorable politician has that much clout. To that end, let’s take care of the natural resource, practice catch and release, report poaching and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends…

This is a great topic and intrest to me.For years MN and WS DNR have fought the progress Tournaments have made over the years. In other states, county ramps are being set up to hold tournys and weight-ins they know the impact it has on local economy. In the 90s MN. had two B.A.S.S. events and a F.L.W. event [what happened?] MN. can t even attract the B.F.L any more.? Now with Everestart in Redwing how long will it be before we detract this event from this area.I read that tourny fishing is the fasted growing sport in U.S.A and in ten years tourny fishing will be bigger than NASCAR and I am afraid MN. and WS. will be left out.
