As your typical bass catch and release guy being able to keep bass doesn’t do anything for me other than allow my tournament season to start. The past couple of years I was pretty blase about the Official Bass Opener. This year it’s 4AM and I’m jacked. First club tournament of the year is next weekend and on my now adopted home lakes. Platte/Sullivan haven’t exactly treated me well on tournament days. But this is gonna be the year it comes together for me out there, hopefully. As for today, every indication is that there should be an excellent topwater bite out there this morning. Can’t wait! Will be back with a report this afternoon.

Well I think it got a little too cold last night. It was a lot more difficult to catch them than I thought it would be. They just weren’t very active. Only got a few to fully commit to my topwater offerings.

I had pretty good luck early…I was on the water at 3AM. All on top waters, poppers and Deer hair bugs using my 8 weight fly rod. Water temps were between 60 and 62, and most of the fish were on the smaller side.

My evening trip went quite a bit better. I’m happy now.
