Does anybody know how the weigh ins are going to go down? Just wondering if you need to buy a ticket or something to get into it? Thought it would be kind of cool if it’s like it looks on TV. I looked on Grand casino web page but they just have an announcement that they will be coming to Mille Lacs. Does anybody know where exactly weigh ins are going to be held, and how to get in etc?

Thanks Munchy. Any ideas why they don’t fish Saturday?

No idea, I thought that was odd as well. Why would you eliminate the most popular day for fans to visit?

Does anyone know how they are getting the fish from the landing (assuming Eddy’s) to weigh in location, without transporting lake water?

hoping Seth fieder makes the cut and we can see a Minnesota boy get it done. He knows that lake well.

Band will claim soverign nation status and the DNR rules don’t apply for them. In a backroom deal Dayton & the DNR will issue a special exemption.

    Bend over…… It’s coming again.

You’re probably right about that. Here we go again…different rules for different fools! mad

With all large tournaments (doesn’t matter what lake or if it’s walleye, bass, or whatever) they either have a special tank with clean water that they place the bags of fish in and that travels to the venue. Or they get exemption from the local authorities to travel a short distance with the water in their livewell which they then dispose of properly.

Don’t make this into a political Indian and AIS war with people that get special “privileges”.

Munchy if you think this thing is going to happen with zero negative PR towards GLIFWC you are dreaming. You (GLIFWC) wanna net the lake during the Walleye spawn……fine, but don’t expect it to get swept away.

Do you wake up angry dutchboy or does it slowly build throughout the day?

It’s constant when I’m awake. I have friends and business associates on Mille Lacs and it’s not a laughing matter to myself or them.

GLIFWC is the target, I could care less about the BASS guys, in fact good for them. I hope they have fun and a successful tourney. I’m just disappointed in the host venue.

    He was born angry.

I’m thinking if this was a PWT or NWT tournament with the same dynamics he wouldn’t have any problems and probably remain silent.

Just speaking for myself here…no one else, when I stated “different rules for different fools” I was referring to the state licensed anglers just the average tax paying ” Joe’s that have to jump through hoops just to launch boats without a weed strand or some unidentified water pooled in the bilge, keep fish of certain sizes, not keeping any walleyes on Mille Lacs that us “fools” feel like we’re always just handcuffed. And then when there’s money or politics involved, the rules can get changed with ” special exceptions” for select groups while the rest of us have to comply with a “different” set of rules…we be the fools!

Well said WS. I am on the fence if I go. I do think it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see KVD walk across the stage with a bag full of bass. I’m torn. I have two boys that will probbably accompany me. One of which had to throw back his first ever walleye a nice 15″er. And I had to try and explain things to him and his older bro who was saying but dad that’s about the size we ate when we were on red a couple weeks ago. I’m going to add a pic of his walleye now, because it’s the only way I am legally allowed to imortilize his catch……. No worries guys about hijacking this thread. I learned in another world to stay out of this discussion.

Exemptions to transport fish in livewells with water have been granted on other MN bodies of water, so I would expect the same.

Do you also know about the slot limit exemption? The anglers don’t have to follow the same slot all of us have to. To my knowledge, they have never done that for a Walleye tournament on the lake(maybe even in the whole state).

Why make this whole event about a Political boycott of the Native Casino. Why not make it about supporting the local Economy. Show up and attend the events associated with the tourney, Gas up your Auto at a local station, Eat a mead at a local restaurant, Stay a night at a motel/hotel/resort in the area. Maybe even bring the family and your boat and do some fishing. If not on Mille Lacs, on one of the many other great lakes in the area.

I’m really excited about it. I plan on bring up the boat to follow some of the action on the water. It would be amazing to see KVD get on the fish. Oh wait… I forgot to be political.

Precisely!! You aren’t required to spend money at the casino. However you sure as heck can spend money to support the other local businesses.

Count me as one person who will not attend the event and frown upon the sponsors. Send a clear (maybe small) message it is not ok to do business with the tribes. Hope other tourney directors get the message….. coffee

Yep. If not well attended. Other Tourney directors ( Both Bass and Walleye ) will get the message loud and clear – Don’t bother having a Major tourney in the state of Minnesota.

Keep in mind there was no other venue in the Mille Lacs area close enough that had anywhere the capacity to hold such an event.
Anyone is free to attend or not attend based on their own personal convictions.

Exactly. I don’t understand those who are so negative about this. You get the largest professional fishing tournament event in the nation to come for the first time ever, that will promote the lake (and what most consider a secondary species) on a national level, thus drawing interest and visitors from all over, staying in resorts and hotels, buying food/drinks/gas all around the lake, not only for this event but for years to come as they come to try their hand at a world class fishery. Meanwhile you have some people all butthurt about the location due to some extreme bitterness over an issue that none of the new visitors will have any history about, but will likely hear about and get an unwelcomed feeling because of this poor bitterness, and if they don’t get that unwelcomed feeling from that they certainly will after they hear about the people clamoring for a bailout from the state to help save their tourism. I just don’t get it.

some of us oppose the Casino. Doesn’t make us right, but certainly doesn’t make us wrong.

Go and enjoy the event if you want to.

I’d prefer it to stay a Midwesterners secret, but I agree. To help the economy in the area something needs to change. As we aren’t ratifying any treaties anytime soon.

If the lake is never known as a walleye haven again then so-be-it. Without big changes from the top down nothing will change. It has the capability of sustaining a world class smallmouth and musky fishery that folks from other parts of the country/world would die to have in their backyard.

I know if I have the chance I will be there to see something I will probably never have a chance at seeing again, and spend a few bucks in town while I’m at it.
