Keep in mind there was no other venue in the Mille Lacs area close enough that had anywhere the capacity to hold such an event.
Anyone is free to attend or not attend based on their own personal convictions.
Exactly. I don’t understand those who are so negative about this. You get the largest professional fishing tournament event in the nation to come for the first time ever, that will promote the lake (and what most consider a secondary species) on a national level, thus drawing interest and visitors from all over, staying in resorts and hotels, buying food/drinks/gas all around the lake, not only for this event but for years to come as they come to try their hand at a world class fishery. Meanwhile you have some people all butthurt about the location due to some extreme bitterness over an issue that none of the new visitors will have any history about, but will likely hear about and get an unwelcomed feeling because of this poor bitterness, and if they don’t get that unwelcomed feeling from that they certainly will after they hear about the people clamoring for a bailout from the state to help save their tourism. I just don’t get it.
I’d prefer it to stay a Midwesterners secret, but I agree. To help the economy in the area something needs to change. As we aren’t ratifying any treaties anytime soon.
If the lake is never known as a walleye haven again then so-be-it. Without big changes from the top down nothing will change. It has the capability of sustaining a world class smallmouth and musky fishery that folks from other parts of the country/world would die to have in their backyard.
I know if I have the chance I will be there to see something I will probably never have a chance at seeing again, and spend a few bucks in town while I’m at it.
