I have not done much frog fishing the last few years and think I’m going to start doing a little more of it. My old supply of frogs is rather poor right now. I probably have not purchased a frog in 8-10 years. What are everyone’s Favorites? Both the Kick style plastic ones and the Hollow body Type.

I haven’t done much frog fishing either. Not because I don’t enjoy it, but because the bite has just been so poor. Which really is kind of a buzz kill because frog fishing is a hoot.

I prefer the SPRO series when using the hollow body frogs. I trim up the legs a little bit though. Pike will ruin them when they rip them, and then they’ll take on water. The Booyah Pad Crasher isn’t bad for the price either.

I’m a hollow body Live Target guy. They’re 3/4 oz so you can cast them a long way.

Be prepared for some sticker shock. There are some pretty pricey ones out there.

I go with either a Booyah padcrasher or a Spro Bronzeye frog. These are your standard topwater frogs. They run about $10 or so. Only color you need is black or brown. Have worked well for years for me.

Back when I use to fish frogs I had excellent success on a white colored frog.

I go with these, or the solid plastic frogs that you Texas rig. Black or brown are the only colors I use as well.

Booyah is my favorite. Trim the feet down quite a bit as well.

White is another color that does work. I prefer black and brown though.

Brown or black or a blue/gray color. AKWAYS a white bottom though. Everything in nature pretty much that a fish sees has a white bottom

Yes, but when a fish looks up into the light they are seeing the black shadow against the sky on the surface and not that white color anymore.

For me, growing up on Tonka & having a pond within a block, it lead to using live frogs, sold them to Roy’s live bait back then. There were no imitations vs live, 50yrs later I’m still in belief of that even though bass fishing is well in my past..In the fall of migrating frogs, it brought walleyes in that feasted on them at night. Find a good fall migration & it’s likely you’ll find some of the largest walleye in the lake. Long story short- I’d still go live in any cover or situation, getting live is the hard part.

I still use Spro. Good baits and pretty tough. I do some trimming to the skirts/legs, and sometimes add a rattle into the body. And a couple other things.

When I graduated HS some 30 years ago my gift from my Dad was a fishing trip. He took me to Pool 4. We stayed in Buffalo City. Early June. We had a good fish catching trip. Mann’s rats were the newest, best scum bait. We caught them well on those. I also caught my first 5 lb River bass that trip, although was on a Spinnerbait. Good times. He still goes up there a couple/few times per year, and still catches fish. To this day when I see Duck Wart, I think scum frog. Although I use an 1/8 oz swim jig just as much now.

    terminator frogs

I bought a terminator frog on sale a couple weeks ago and it looks pretty good. Haven’t used it yet. Zman also makes a hollow body frog now too.

I had been fishing Pad Crashers and Livetarget Sunfish and getting very few bites the last couple years. Used to be lights out – but I think the fish have just seen too many of them especially on the busier lakes. Also fished the faster moving toads, etc. but only a few reaction bites/blowups and low hook up percentage.

I bought the G.O.A.T Toadz Eric mentioned above and rigged with a 5/0 EWG. They have pretty much replaced all of my frog/toads lures. Reason is they float and you can retrieve at the right speed – somewhere a little quicker than a walking frog yet not as fast as a traditional toad that you have to move relatively fast to keep from sinking. Seems to be a happy medium and gets crushed.

With the soft Elaztech – the hook up ratio is much better than traditional frogs/toad. Topwater is fun again!

Very intriguing. Where are you tossing this thing? Right in the slop and the pads where you’d normally throw a frog? I may have to give this a try.

Best place seems to be the pads, especially if there are some open holes. Can go deeper in the slop too, am using 30 lb braid so there are some limitations. Pulled a 5.7 out of some pretty thick stuff last week. But I would save the frog and 65 lb braid for the heavy mats in mid-summer. I’m just not doing that much these days… limited success/high maintenance.

Shhh, don’t tell everyone how much fun and well it works frogging at 2 am for walleye in the fall. It is exciting having big walleye destroy a frog in 2 feet of water. I have had the best luck doing this with a white frog, full moon, and fishing the inside of the weed line.

My favorite is the Kalin’s Sizmic Toad with a large offset worm hook.
They dont float so you skim them across the water. I also use their floating frogs with same hook which are deadly when you need to slow things down

For those who fish a hollow body frog and have problems with them sinking when they start getting water into them. You can get some extra life out of them by filling the body with spray foam. Back when I was poor ( Who am I kidding – I’m still poor ) I bad a ton of frogs that no longer floated like they should and would sink. Got a can of spray foam and filled the bodies with it. Not only do they still float, they are heavier and you can throw them much further.

Snagproof Bobby’s Perfect Sparrow color is my workhorse frog. Caught hundreds of bass on that frog.

Last year I took a shine to the Teckel Whacker (RI Swamp Donkey) and the River2Sea Bully Wa 2.

This year the Terminator Poppin Frog has gotten a lot of use.
