Fewer fish on Sugar but they are bigger-you will have fun.

Hmmm, my experience out there has been the opposite. Fish it for league mid July every year so that may have something to do with it. A ton of 14-15” fish. Maple is usually pretty good around the same time.

Seems to be a few more 17s &18s, I have never caught one over 18 though, has kind of been my once a year meet-locker lake, Sylvia works too.

I got only one four-pounder in the boat for the month on the 30th. That is pretty much stupid terrible. The frog bite was a little slow to develop, and I’m still not totally dialed in, but I’m getting bites, so I’m a happy camper.

Technically it’s not June anymore but bass fishing was fantastic this morning. Caught some fish early on a spinnerbait with the cloud deck and then the dock bite really picked up when the sun emerged. Caught my biggest largie of the season by weight too.

Also a July report. A buddy and I got out Sat. morning on a new lake that neither of us had ever been on. We were at the lake by 5:30 and were the 1st boat there. We started out with a Buzzbait and a swim jig on a shallow weed flat near the landing. We caught several fish on both lures. Wanting to find a deeper weedline bite we started looking around and found what appeared to be the best deeper weedline shoreline. We ended up with a really good # of fish. Probably had 10-12 in the 16-18″ range. Buddy fished a Jigworm all day except for the Buzzbait early. I had rods rigged with 4 different setup and caught fish on every one of them. they were a Jigworm, a Neko rig, a Dropshot, and my version of a Jig and Pig. Probably did the best on the Neko rig. I would say that my and my buddy # were about equal. The only thing that would have been nice is if we had caught a few BIG fish. I’m sure they are in there just didn’t happen to catch any this outing. The lake had a excellent mix of different size fish, but overall a nice size average. This lake looked like it may be really good for dock fishing as well. Also possibly a good slop bite. We just didn’t fish either. Fun fishing a new lake. I think we did a good job of breaking it down and figuring it out rather quickly as we only fished for about 5 hr’s. Looking forward to getting back out there and seeing if we can get it dialed in even better.

What is the jigworm you always say u use. Like a actual jig and 7 inch power bait or something?

Yep. Just that. Normally a 1/8 or 3/16 oz Jig with a 7″ powerworm. Nothing special.

Really wonder if a Neko is any better than a jig worm.

Depends on what they want. Some days either one could outfish the other easily. The neko has a completely different fall and much slower fall and that can be the difference some days.

Technically a Ned rig could be considered a jig worm. Mushroom head jig with a plastic worm = jig worm.

Exactly. Usually a full size worm though.

How is the fall different?-speed is all about weight, I have very light jigs-impossible to say when a fast or slow fall is best-I fished SMBs in about 2′ of rocky water ’till I lost all my light jigs-put on what I thought was too heavy and caught more fish! Fast fall? Harder ‘click’ on the bottom? Not sure.

It spins and undulates when it falls. That’s why it gets hit on the fall around 80% of the time. Ned rigs go up and then down. Or are dragged. They stand up and typically get hit while sitting still. Neko sits on the bottom uniquely as well, but it’s mostly the fall that really gets the fish to bite. You are right that sometimes heavier can be better, but I have found that is almost always with bigger plastics.

As Mahtofire said. Somedays Yes, and other days no. I tend to fish the Neko more these days because I’m often fishing from the back of the boat and my partner in the front is fishing a Jigworm about 99% of the time. I find out real fast if they prefer the Jigworm over the Neko or not. If so I switch to the Jigwom as well. I almost always like to throw a different bait from the back as the person in the front. Helps to figure out what bait the fish prefer and also shows the fish a different bait.

Just an observation but for last 2 weeks was working on balsam lake, afforded us the opportunity to chuck some lures into a fairly nice shaded cove during lunch and breaks, only a few nice bass but they were very close to shore or under docks/trees. Every single bass boat that went by chucked to these spots but weren’t penetrating enough to catch these fish.

The shallows have resident fish year round. They get overlooked but at the same time you can have a lot more success with less effort working deep schools.

Right now the deep crank and big worm bite should be popping off.

Yep Dueces you push threw matted weeds work around and cast by trees and brush but on many lakes thats where the pigs are-much easier to get stuff out in open water.

Shade is the key in midsummer for me. Whether that be in thick weeds, under docks, or deeper water. Some of the weeds are so darn thick it’s virtually impossible to fish it. My bow mount weedless wedge prop can slice through quite a bit, but the last couple times it gotten wrapped up in this stringy type spaghetti crap.
