Just a heads up to anyone coming from another state to Barron county WI to go to your cabin or your normal residence will be quarantined for 14 days. So if you are a snowbird coming home from the south plan on being quarantined for 14 days. I have a friend who flew to Arizona for business and will also have to be quarantined if he comes back to his residence in Barron county.

How in the world is this going to be enforced and tracked?
A quick count showed 85 or so roads entering the county…..good luck with the feel-good measure. The resources needed to pull it off would be staggering to say the least.
And there’s a freeway running through the heart of the county with dozens of more exits……lol
March 24, 2020 at 5:38 pm #1926841I don’t know. I have a call into our local police to find out more info, but have not received anything back. He is the person who informed me of the quarantine so I could tell some of my friends coming back from the south.
March 24, 2020 at 5:51 pm #1926845I just talked our police chief about the quarantine. If you are on the road in Barron county starting at 8 am tomorrow morning the police can stop you and ask you where you are going to and coming from. Wisconsin is in a shelter in place order starting at the same time. I asked our police chief if you have a Doctors appointment in MN can you come back with no problems. He said as long as you have an appointment that can be verified, you will have no problem. There is no travel in Wi unless going to Dr.,or grocery store, or other approved venues.
curleytailPosts: 674March 24, 2020 at 6:03 pm #1926846With other approved venues also being travel to spend time outdoors. This would be nearly impossible to enforce in my opinion. I live in Barron county and travel north on HWY 53 in the morning to go to my “essential infrastructure” employer. I’ll be going past before 8 am but will be pretty shocked if I get pulled over on my way home to get asked where I’m heading.
I think it’s a request or suggestion but really can’t be enforced in any significant manner.
March 24, 2020 at 6:03 pm #1926847That’s funny, how can your police chief not follow what governor Evers has mandated? LMAO

tbrunoPosts: 53March 24, 2020 at 6:30 pm #1926853It states that it’s a travel advisory and unnecessary travel is discouraged. I don’t think they will be stopping people driving to check where they came from or where they are going. I have been told by law enforcement personal that they are to limit interaction with people if at all possible to prevent becoming infected.(i.e. traffic stops for minor violations or equipment violations) Have heard other people saying you need paperwork to travel to work and that is false also.
Ice CapPosts: 2171March 24, 2020 at 6:42 pm #1926863We got our letter stating our distribution business is a essential infrastructure business. We don’t just travel from home to work we go from store to store to store. We were told to keep the letter with us but if things come to a lock down we would need to show it to authorities to be allowed to travel about.
curleytailPosts: 674March 24, 2020 at 6:46 pm #1926864Expect to see other counties trying to do the same thing. Sawyer, Washburn, and a 3rd that I forget issued letters requesting people to stay away from their seasonal cabins until this blows over too.
A well intentioned request, but not likely to happen.
March 24, 2020 at 7:07 pm #1926869We got one for our place in Bayfield. I also don’t see how they will be able to enforce it. All you have to do is say you are going to the liquor store to grab a case of beer.
March 24, 2020 at 7:07 pm #1926870My daughters lives in Madison and they were issued travel papers by their employer that shows they are essential workers if they ever get stopped. This is in Dane county

My daughter lives in Madison too (well Stoughton to be exact), she works for the state and is working from home now. Her husband (my SIL) works for Johnsonville and being food related, he’s considered essential. Gotta keep the brats rolling out.

This part is what seems something to take note. This limitation may likely spread to many other areas as well. My hideaway is at Mille Lacs in Aitkin county and I expect it may be in place there soon.
I will, respect both the spirit and intent of the restriction when I go. It’ll mean I need to bring everything to in fact “hole up” for 2 weeks without going out at all. I’m already making my list of needs.
From Barron County announcement…
If seasonal or recreational property owners do travel into Barron County, they are required to self- quarantine for fourteen (14) days in order to stop COVID-19 community-to-community spread. Property owners must plan accordingly and bring 14 days of supplies with them. Self-quarantine does not permit shopping at local stores for these supplies.

Not at all surprising. EVERYBODY is doing that today. Employers handing those out is a cover their employees rear kind of thing. We probably stand a better chance of catching a 35 inch walleye on Green Bay than get pulled over and questioned about where we are headed. But on the off chance it happens it will be easy for the person to explain. But they could just as easily say they are going grocery shopping or heading to the woods to take a walk and be waved along as well.
The info that came out details what can and can’t be done. Honestly, there’s more things that are ok to do than aren’t. The main thing the gov wants is to limit interation with others and keep our distance. Aside from that there really aren’t many limitations except you can’t go to the book store or get a haircut because those places have been shut down.
Facebook and the workplace are pretty bad places to get info. As a supervisor I’m talking about 25 percent of my direct reports off the ledge today. Lots of bad or twisted info out there. The WI directive that came out today changes very very little compared to what everyone has been doing for the last week or so.
For anybody in WI, if you haven’t read the directive given to WI today that begins tomorrow at 8 am, you owe it to yourself to read it. You’ll find out it’s about 4 sentences telling you what you can’t do, and about 15 pages telling you what you can do. I’ll try to put a link to this thread after I find it again.
curleytailPosts: 674March 24, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1926893It is less about enforcement and more about decreasing the risk of the disease being spread in our region. The “here is what we need everyone to do and why” is the point…just trying to tighten up
bigpikePosts: 6259March 25, 2020 at 5:53 am #1926990Buddy’s sister was followed by an Onieda county sheriff through Minoqua yesterday. Pulled over out of town. With her scrubs on was asked to show her employee I.D. So if your going to travel in Wisconsin you better be prepared with more than the story of “I’m going to the liquor store for a case of beer”
bigpikePosts: 6259March 25, 2020 at 6:24 am #1926992Hopefully they nab the citiate that just showed up at his 2nd home on the lake yesterday. Those are the people that should be getting tickets and fines. Tracks his stuff through every gas pump and store he goes to. Let’s not be selfish and play by our own rules just for a few weeks, OK?

That surprises me, especially since the order that would enforce that doesn’t even start for another 30 minutes yet today. Still, going shopping IS a valid reason to travel so I hope people don’t hear things like this and get scared to go out and about to do things they are very much allowed to do.
bigpikePosts: 6259March 25, 2020 at 7:38 am #1926999Sherriff was letting people know to take this seriously. The word is out.
March 25, 2020 at 7:45 am #1927001I guess if I was the sheriff I would be waiting until it’s enforceable to be stopping anyone.

Its good that they’re being proactive about it. Kind of like when the deadline approaches to remove your permanent ice house from the lake. They’ll often be out more simply reminding people of the rule.
March 25, 2020 at 8:06 am #1927007I read the entire Stay at Home Order issued by Governor Evers. There are a lot of exceptions. Outdoor recreation is permitted so long as it adheres to social distancing rules. Only members from the same household can be in small groups. So as I understand, if you do not live with someone and you are found to be in close proximity to them, you can be cited, correct?
March 25, 2020 at 8:10 am #1927008Great. My cabin is in Barron County. I get a kick out of the Northern Locals that all of the sudden want a one way road from the north. Just keep your property taxes coming. God help you if you dare to buy my groceries too.

Not to pee on everyone’s back but you really cant obey the limitations put in place for a few weeks without crying about your tax bill or staying away from “my” grocery store. Selfish society reigns I guess. I do hope you and your family members are spared from this pandemic

Bigpike, I sent a link to this thread to the Oneida County Sheriffs Dept, it will be interesting to see if they can identify why she may have been pulled over, before the travel advisory even started.

Let’s not make them enforce this. After all, the person that doesn’t follow the order, maybe the person that infects you, your parents, or (older kids).
Back to cleaning my office that needed cleaning for the last 15 years.

How do you know if the “citiate” didn’t pack all his supplies from home, left home with a full tank of gas, never made one stop at a store or gas station and pulled right up to his 2nd home lake place with the intent of staying put for 2 weeks?
Even the Barron County quarantine allows for that and would be compliant with their directive.
