Not the best picture but it’s there if you look close. Just came past my house in Fountain City and it’s headed north.

Was that a commercial tow,or the Coast Guard buoy tender rig?

My River Nav app says it’s The CG Wyaconda (the buoy tender).

Upon closer review they were setting buoys. False alarm. sleeping

Brian what app are you using?

    Marine traffic

Excellent when you want to use the locks. Also good for when I want to anchor in main channel, I can estimate how long before they’ll be running me over.

On a desktop go to MarineTraffic.com

It’s free and you can see what your getting.

There’s a app for $5(?) Work great 75% of the time…but once in a while I won’t see a tow. So I always use two websites (because waiting 2 hours at 1 in the morning isn’t pleasant).

Using the Corp site and adding 8 hours to the time a tow goes through L&D #4 and 4 hours from the time a tow goes through L&D #2 adds to it’s accuracy.

Riverruns, the guys at the lock will, but don’t like to run to the phone.
In the winter months there’s only one person on and normally calls go into voice mail because the fella isn’t close to the phone.

In the summer months if they are handling a tow going through the lock, they’re busy with that.

Otherwise they seem to be happy answering the phone. Just really no need to call with today’s technology.

People have taught me a lot about the river although I’m still learning.

    Good question though!
