First Ice Eyes

I was out in Stump bay on early ice last year just tip-uping for bass and northern, with not a ton of luck. But at dark a couple groups came out and set up for walleyes. Does this produce much? And if so what kind of minnow do you use, sucker or shinner. Also, is there a magic depth or better part of the bay to fish. Any info would be appreciated. You can tell I’m already getting the itch.

During the deer gun season Are group usually gets to hit first ice on Mid EauClaire. We take some nice eyes after dark through the ice. We use large fat heads and some small sucker minnows. We set up on a sand flat, about 4-6FOW. There is a deep drop off near by.

For ice fishing you can’t go wrong with big shiners for walleye and just about any other game fish that swims under the hard top….
