Anyone know if there is much of a night bite on LOTW, and what species is most active then. Heading out of Ballard’s resort this weekend, hoping to do some night fishing after they take us back to our cabins. Appreciate any help in advance.

Not necessarily true… LOW is not know for a night bite, however when the lake finally froze this winter, I am hearing many reports that the water clarity is really good (relatively speaking). Last season this was not the case. You could hit some nice walleyes after sunset, especially shallow.

    Phillip –
We will be fishing out of Adrian’s this week. We stay out late and usually pick up a few Eyes, Pout, Whitefish.
Are you bringing ATV’s or have a sleeper? If not you’ll only be fishing till 5pm anyway.
Only 9.5 inches on the lake, Adrian’s won’t open the road for vehicle traffic until it hits 14.

I said pout is about it because from my experience in the several years I have fished up there it hasn’t been worth the effort. If you are sleeping on the lake then why not try to see if something will bite. If you aren’t then I have found for me it isn’t worth the effort, and I just go in at sundown, relax and get ready for a new day.

Me and 31lifer went up there for the first time 6/7 years ago. We were told nothing bites at night and there’s no perch in the area. We went out that night and caught a couple walleye and a perch.
Since then we have conducted many studies and concluded that is impossible to catch a fish at night on LOTW if your sitting at the resort. whistling

I too have had worse luck sitting in the tavern at Ballards but fish can be had! Remember though, stained water = more of a day bite. Nick Anthony (@ballardslow on IDO) can give you some guidance.

Thanks for all the advice, I will definitely take the wheeler and portable for the night time bite. Not much of a drinker to hang out at the bar. Make the most out of a work related trip.
    Thanks again,

Drive down to red for the night bite.

I have to agree with eelpoutguy! We will be out catching fish after everyone else is off the lake. I hear Ballard’s has the best pizza around toast (cardboard and ketchup)
