Bald Eagle law question (asking for a friend)

There two eagles that like to ice fish. They stand on the ice for hours watching the fisherman. I assume hoping to get a snack. Is it legal to feed them? Throw them a dead sucker minnow? Or a small perch that died? What about a 19″ Pike?

Are any of these legal to give to them? My friend is curious.

when fishing the lock and dams i’ll put a knife to small drum we catch and dump em in the water and the eagles will swoop down 15-20yds from us and collect them.

I have no idea if its legal but its pretty awesome.

It’s not legal to throw fish on the ice to leave them. That’s all I know for sure.

What if I ‘unintentionally’ feed a fish to an eagle, but then capture and kill the eagle to reclaim possession of my much needed walleye?

I’m guessing it’s illegal to cook the eagle drumsticks separately from the walleye. But if I cook them together is that should all count as one fish towards my possession limit right?

I fish in Ontario each year and the guide ALWAYS kills a fish and throws to the eagles.

This is correct. So whether you are throwing them on the ice to “feed the eagles” or just throwing them on the ice because you don’t want them in the lake anymore, its illegal. Getting caught by the law is another topic for another day.

One can place a fish on the ice while fishing as long as said fish conforms to the applicable fishing regulations. One can not go away and leave said fish on the ice. However, if an eagle were to swoop down and steal your fish, while you are still there???? The stolen fish would still count against your catch and possession limit.

I actually had a mink steal a duck before I could wade across the water and retrieve said duck. He simply beat me to the dead duck.

    If you can believe SNOPES

No Federal (or Alaska State) law saying you can’t feed Eagles.

I was catch and releasing bluegills last spring from the shore. I hooked one pretty deep and didn’t know if he would make it or not but I thought I’d give him a chance. He swam away no problem. About 10 minutes later I seen him floating about 30 yards out. Wind was blowing into shore so I’d thought I’d wait and scoop him up once he was close enough.

Started putting my gear away I bent down to pick something up and SPLASH! Big Bald Eagle hit the water after that gill. Probably ten yards off shore from where I was standing. He flapped his wings on top of the water until he got himself turned around and got airborne again with that gill in his talons. Incredible to watch. That eagle solved my problem of not wanting to waste that gill.
